We had one of the larger husky ones on demo, instead of a boundary wire you draw a boundary line on a gps map on your phone, you can change the boundary at a drop of a hat to concentrate on certain areas if needed. coped well with rough ground too.

Surely there is someone in the village, who does a bit part time gardening would cut the lawn? That way you get your stripes.

Guys on he farm do it mostly - but stiff like harvest and drilling get in the way

My village is full of people who really don’t cut lawns !

Me or wife do it the rest of the time but a robot would do it ALL the time

From what I can see they cost less than a half decent ride on as well and burn no fossil fuel

That’s sounds like a good idea - the wire is something that puts me off

Can you recall the model ?

One of my favourite jobs cutting grass.takes me about 2 1/2 hours a time.agree at times a job to find time but allways seem to manage.robots must be ok for one area but a pain to keep moving if lots of differant areas.got 14 separate areas here to do.

I agree it can be enjoyable if you have time but more often than not it’s a rush to beat weather etc

One main area here, would still probably do the other bits by hand but it would be much less of a job and maybe more enjoyable then

Doing all ours is a good full afternoons work right now - I can’t simply get s bigger mower as there are bits where nothing bigger would fit or be easy to use

Local Lass redundant from a small Jersey Farm 19 odd years ago. To get her started we gave her the job of cutting any grass, she liked too take on, on the farm.
5 years ago I took on the old Jersey farm which she also use to cut but now having moved into it I now Cut as after building operations not really good conditions for her smart mower.
Her taking on my Grass mowing let me take on Mowing the Village Football and Cricket ground (it takes about 2.5hrs with a 5 gang JD 3530 (very old but dose the job)

Your pet subject of lifetime ownership comes into it I think. On a large garden they will be running some serious hours every year. I know they are simple machines but probably need a major refurb after three years. Still probably cheaper than your time. Didn’t know about gps version. Probably would have swung it for me.

Does the mower still operate randomly or in sort of organised pattern with the gps. Would save a massive amount of run time

I believe, could be wrong, that the GPS models can track to another part of lawn for example over a drive way. I was considering one and was going to chop a chunk out of the bottom of the side gate so it could fit through.

Not sure how they operate with overhead trees though,I know my patchwork absolutely carps itself round our field boundaries.

Brother in law has a flymo robot mower, about £400 from Amazon. It's not a massive lawn but it's always tidy with the robot mower. He's had it 2 years and no problems, it's set to go out everyday.
I'm so impressed with it that next spring I'll buy one. I'm fed up of trying to keep on top of it, I don't get a lot of free time and can think of better things to do than cut grass.

One of my neighbours has an olive green robot mower which seems to do a good job but I have noticed that the gardeners job first thing each morning is stick picking. Secondly he also mows the lawn about once a fortnight around the borders. If that is necessary, then you end up with the costs of two mowers, which reduces the benefit. This lawn would be about the size of 2 tennis courts and has just been relaid laser level with rolawn turf over the last 12 months. The robot mower would probably have been bought with the spare change seeing how many man hours went into the project.

We have a husqy 450x on our caravan park, running almost at its maximum area until we see how well it copes. Sam turner's did the wire install and it's been spot on. The grass looks amazing and saves us an absolute fortune in man hours each year even though we ran a 7ft cut ransomes parkway before it.
Might only be a struggle when theres heavy leafall but we can leafblow it if needs be.

Will be using multiple machines across the full park as soon as we get the edges prepared correctly.
