RPA inspection

After the winter and wet spring we have all had, we received a call today from an rpa inspector saying they wanted to do a whole herd inspection on Tuesday.
This after all the cattle have just gone out for the summer in various locations, this could have been carried out at the tb test during March.
They would be better suited to getting their online services working properly both bcms and rpa.

Exactly the same has just happened to me. Just put everything outside for a few days and then the phone rings.

Its hellish trying to get them all back inside after theve just been let out.

You are threatened with all sorts of punishment, whole herd restrictions more severe than being closed up with a tb breakdown, nothing on or off with no income
Wonder how they could do that when you own the farm, stock and pports . Police your farm on market days?! Beyond a joke now subs going. Unless somebody is triggering problems at bcms with movements /late births etc we should be left alone or have the right to say no .

They can take your passports away.

I guess if there was total non cooperation they could come back with Trading Standards and APHA people, and tell you that you are committing an offence under the relevant law.(Cattle Identification Regulations 2007)Similarly,if you moved cattle off your holding either to a market or privately with a movement restriction, you would be committing an offence.

Goodluck entering the house to take the pports! Last two inspections i had were during the winter so just walked the sheds shouting the numbers out while the inspector ticked them off. Having an inspection while the cattle are out in the fields and needing to bring them in would test my patience.

Last year I had the call day before i was going on hols. He said he could only give 24hr notice so couldn't rearrange. He suggested that someone would be looking after the animals anyway and that they could escort him.

I said that was fine, I'll leave passports on the desk and that my man will point him in the direction of cattle, HOWEVER, he would not be helping with reading tags as he was busy doing 2 people's jobs anyway.
Upshot, he duly arrived and started looking at tags and quickly gave up. He then informed that he would be back the following week when we had a TB test already booked in!!
Nice pre holiday stress when I was already trying to get everything straight before hol.

So what did you tell them?
Did you explain why that would be tricky and see if there could be a compromise, like just seeing one group up close?
I suppose they don’t just work in the winter, probably a good idea to check some while they are out.

It's madness!
We have just had 3 consecutive TB tests . They had their chance then to do all three holdings . All are out now ,scattered around the County, I would tell them where they are and say carry on . I think my lim cows would make short work of a stranger trying to read tags on their young calves in the middle of a field . .....I would send them to those cows first !
