Sent a muck sample off to test for fluke and they there's no sign of liver fluke ,but there are rumen fluke eggs.

Vet says this is not common and we've not had it before. Treatment apparently is Zanil.

Just wondering if anyone else has experience of it and what they did

Sample last winter can back with rumen fluke.
In sucklers. We used normal fluke drench - can remember if it was albex wormer fluke or triclercert we used.
No rumen fluke in results this autumn 🤷‍♂️

I have had similar results from a recent sample (rumen fluke but no liver fluke) although mine showed a relatively high worm count for the time of year as well. Lab report suggests both are more likely to be incidental to an underlying condition but bloods are all fine and we've been vaccinating for Johnes for ten years so shouldn't be that.

I dosed them all with Levafas Diamond (since discovered Downland do a generic fluke and worm dose the same) which also has Levamisole but mine were due to get wormed pre-lambing even before I got the results. The combi drenches have a lower Oxyclozanide content so will be interesting to see if it a) clears up the rumen fluke and/or b) helps the condition of the ewes as I have too many lean ones for my liking.

The report says that there isn't much evidence of rumen fluke being very harmful but to watch for scouring and loss of condition. Ours aren't scoured but had lost a bit of condition in the last 6 weeks. However that could be the bad weather.

Speaking to our ag merchant they said there had been a few people enquiring about dosing for it but only 1 had done it. The others were OK

Levas Dimond can be used aswell, but I believe it’s also a wormer, had a problem with rumen fluke a few years ago noticed after weaning ewes were not gaining condition, so drenched them and haven’t had a problem since

Ive used diamond before and found the ewes depressed and scouring for a day or two after dosing, did you notice anything like that?

If dose cows with levafast they scour for a day or 2 and it will bring on milk fever if they are close to calving, but on the upside it does clear out all mature fluke and worms

I’ve had it described too me as a “savage treatment” they scour and look miserable for a couple of days while the dose does it’s job. Then they are cleaned out and ready too rock and roll. That’s why you should never severely overdose with a yellow drench, it sends them into toxic shock and they die within 1/2 hour of drench. Found that out the hard way 5/6 years ago using Levacure on a boiling hot day when a white drench hadn’t worked.
I did a big batch of fattening hoggs last week with levofas diamond. FEC has come back with some worm and a few fluke eggs so was advised too use the levafas for a short WD cheap dose. Resistance isn’t an issue as they are on arable ground which won’t see sheep again for 5 years. Day after there was definite scour on a few of the long tails. 2 days after they were all back flying around the field like a bunch of hooligans!

Yes they do scour for a day or two but go on to do after it. Once had rumen in some bought in (organic) cattle that was a lesson learned, only after reading it an Irish paper that I knew what it was and how easy it was to treat

I had used it prelambing mainly as something different against the fluke, but seeing them like that was the last thing I wanted at that time of year, they did come right tho but it gave me a fright.
