Won’t shut schools as they have to many working fir government ie nhs
Agree, that is the plan but once teachers start self isolating it may not be possible to keep them open.
My wife (teacher, senco and asthmatic) is concerned that she is potentially exposing herself to higher risks which would then mean our children are higher risk.
On top of that there are children at most schools that rely on their school as a safe place, where they are fed and cared for and closing schools for them can also be seen as an increased risk.

Things are moving very fast.
My wife has been in contact with other senior leaders at her school and the wider trust throughout the night and they are expecting staff shortage's as well as a big drop in student attendance today. Some schools in the trust had up to 15% absent yesterday.
Looking like schools will close sooner than planned.
Grim days ahead

Yes.
its like the sporting events thing last week. They saId big crowds at outside gatherings was ok but football and rugby authorities thought otherwise and did their own thing.
So many people now pulling their kids out of school that Government will have to bring in the school shutdowns earlier that they have planned.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s announced in today or tomorrow’s briefing meeting.

Think its possible this week perhaps Friday, but I think we're a couple of weeks behind France which has now instigated a proper lockdown and curfew. I say again closing schools is pointless without a proper legislative lockdown.

Voluntary advice is no good, a chain is as strong as its weakest link. So we will need a proper lockdown soon, but to early and people will get fed up.

Lots of old people working in schools also?
Dinner ladies, lunch time monitors, reading helpers , cleaners ,caretakers ,the list goes on???
And if they close the schools they will be looking after there children/grandchildren at home, not unless there is proper isolation and lockdown is it worth the cost of closing schools and all other child care settings.

It wont now matter how soon or late a proper lockdown occurs, people will be fed up in days, to be helpful lockdown would need until there is a vaccine, that's a long time away! A lockdown may drop the number of daily infections but until we have either a vaccine or have built herd immunity as soon as restrictions are lifted cases will start shooting up again.. An on/off lockdown approach may smooth the peak into mini peaks but I think we need 40 million to have been infected before we start to see herd immunity and if 15% of cases need hospital treatments any thing over 100,0000 infected in any one month is going to swamp the ability to provide treatment and that 100,000 figure is assuming we can increase ventilator and nursing provision by 400% ... its going to be a looonnng lockdown to allow 40 million infections to occur if we cant cope when we have 100,000 infected a month.

Looking at the mortality charts it seems to me it is absolutely critical we do everything possible to prevent those at higher risk of requiring hospitalisation from being exposed to this disease. It is surely now time to brick the elderly and at most at risk into their homes and try to manage the infection though the rest of the population, hospitalisation rate for those infected is around 15% but remove these higher risk groups from infection and this 15% figure is drastically cut.... Unless a vaccine is coming within a few weeks I am sure this is the only way we can hope to build up the herd immunity we need to protect the at risk groups whilst keeping the number of patients requiring hospital treatment within feasible levels and to do this in a time frame of months not years!

This is on balance from what I've read and understood to be the most sensible approach.
