Looking for a second hand truck. Hope to keep it for a while as won’t be doing many miles a year, so I want something reliable When out of warranty. am i right in thinking that a newish ford and VW have the same Ford engine which has reports of been unreliable. How old would I have to go to get a VW with a reliable engine and what spec engine would be the best.
are there any Ford rangers engines that have good reliability in models a couple of years old? ( don’t want a Hilux as I don’t like the driving position)

Not sure that an ad blue system and low use is a good combination.

The d max is the job, last of 2.5 would be my choice. I think they finished in 2017.if you do sort runs it needs a DPF delete. There’s a guy in Sheffield will sort it for you.
I prefer the manual for economy, have a DSG Alhambra best of both worlds. I’m no stranger to 2 pedal motoring

Better think about rust too. I bought a new Ranger in 2005, didn't drive it that much and thought it would last forever. Had to scrap it at 110,000 miles because it was literally falling apart. Cable ties and screws holding things on.
The engine would have gone another hundred thousand at least, it was like new, but the body was crap. This truck was under-sealed from day one and regularly every few years thereafter.

The spare tire fell out the bottom, hanger rusted through, and bounced when I was driving at 60 mph. Would have killed someone if there had been a car behind me. Drove home and phoned the scrappie.

I certainly doubt the quality of their steel has improved since then, more likely going the other way. It's a shame. I have a Mitsubishi now and I absolutely hate the f*****.

If you fancy an Isuzu drop me a message. I have a very tidy 2017 Dmax Utah for sale, I've had it for about 4 years now and has never been any bother at all. Automatic , done 80,000 miles and recently had new brakes all around. It's a good truck pretty high spec, doesn't have any ad-blue rubbish on it and only being sold as I've bought a newer one, not asking over the odds for it and no vat on it either
