I think most have already broken. It’s now quite rare to see a d40
I have a navara D40 2014 model.
Just this year nissan recalled it (free of charge) took off the whole back tray, did a chasis inspection (for the snap in 2 problem).
Once it was checked and OKed, cleaned the chasis all up and resprayed it.

The dealer told me that the snap in 2 problem was because at the factory, once the chasis were mostly finished before final welding and paint job etc, they left them outside.
If it rained then water got in, then this was sealed inside during completion.
The water then was trapped and rotted the chasis from the inside out over a period of years.
Because it's rotting from the inside outwards, it's hard to detect a bad one, without a full inspection.

As long as it wasn't rained on, then they are fine, trouble is noone knows which are or aren't bad without the proper inspection.
Dealer told me they had written off several when they came back for recall.

Other than that, I really rate my D40 navara, it's my second one and never had any issue with them.
But I'd only buy a second hand one if it had the free recall done.

You have been kidded. Do you not see the number of large holes they stamp in the side of the chassis specifically so that salty water and sticky shite gets inside during service? They have not stopped doing so on current models either, so they are unlikely to last more than a handful of years longer than the D40 average.
Compare and contrast a current Navara’s chassis to any other, but especially that of the HiLux to see what I mean if it isn’t obvious

Land cruiser 100 series 4.2 diesel will tow 3.5 ton with ease .Hugely reliable I have a friend with one on 300.000 miles still strong as the day it left the factory ours is on 200,000 still great best 4x4 for towing by far. Parts easy to get milners 4x4
Could you tell me where to get the master cylinder and brake servo booster for one at under £5000 then please?

ml320 £580 road tax !!

Thats the case for any large engined vehicle first registered after March 2006. The trick is to fine one that was registered just before the cut off, then its about £300/yr tax

The ML320 has been a great towing vehicle for me, though off road performance is not good. My one issue is whether it would be up to towing on the 3.5 tonne limit all day everyday. I use mine for delivering hay, and never tow above 3 tonnes gross, often around 2 and a half. That being said it feels a lot more stable on the road than my old TD5, with exactly the same load. Whether the chassis and sub frame is the boss of 3.5 tonne of moving around cattle is the question I'd be asking.

You can find an ML320 with about 100k on the clock for about 4-5k now. Most have never towed seriously, if at all, so if you have to fit the towbar yourself you know its not been hammered too hard.

Trooper will be hard to replace, found it far nicer to tow with than Landrover, older 1990's Range Rovers and Discoveries. Have contemplated a new chassis, which is the problem area particularly as its done only about 60,000 miles and I've got on top of most of the 3.0l problems, with a lot of help from the trooper forum, but too much work. Been warned off Jeeps by my son who has one for off roading,he doesn't fancy constantly fettling 2 ! I wasn't aware of the increase in tax after 2006.........gives the measure of the age of vehicles I normally look for! Mercedes used to have a reputation for robust vehicles, I guess the ML is probably more car than workhorse then and would assume the Audi ,VW and Volvo equivalents are the same. Not seen a SsangYong close up, are they robust? Looking like a Range Rover,a multimeter and a bag of spanners then...

Careful, most older pickups (before around 2015) weren't rated to pull 3.5t.

If the 3.5t capability wasn't a deal breaker just buy an old Hilux, you can't kill them.

Is your chassis knackered? 60k is extremely low miles for a Trooper.
