About 15 years ago we had two jeeps parked outside the door, a brand new discovery and a few year old land cruiser. Only one gave trouble. It wasnt the toyota. Their was a noticable difference in build quality between the two. The land rover felt all saggy and rolled more in bends. Remember driving along one day and all flashing warning lights came on. Pulled over as the suspension had lowered itself whilst driving. Even though it looked the part, it was poorly put together. A lost of other issues with it also. Traded it after 2 years and lost my shirt. I'm sure things are different these days.

Can a rewind company not rebuild the motor? For 5k they could hand craft one out of Gold and Titanium!!!

I will try and get the number off the father in law as we have had jcb starters rewound before has to be cheaper than Toyota

Trooper will be hard to replace,found it far nicer to tow with than Landrover,older 1990's Range Rovers and Discoveries. Have contemplated a new chassis,which is the problem area particularly as its done only about 60,000 miles and I've got on top of most of the 3.0l problems,with a lot of help from the trooper forum,but too much work. Been warned off Jeeps by my son who has one for off roading,he doesn't fancy constantly fettling 2 ! I wasn't aware of the increase in tax after 2006.........gives the measure of the age of vehicles I normally look for! Mercedes used to have a reputation for robust vehicles, I guess the ML is probably more car than workhorse then and would assume the Audi ,VW and Volvo equivalents are the same. Not seen a SsangYong close up, are they robust? Looking like a Range Rover,a multimeter and a bag of spanners then...

Is it possible to get a new chassis? Thanks Angus.

Which Disco was that?

I'd have a td5 in a heartbeat - it's just a Defender 110 with a different body. Very good engine and parts are cheap as chips. Was actually looking at one last week, sadly it sold very quickly... and I don't really need it

Is your chassis knackered? 60k is extremely low miles for a Trooper.

The two rear cross members and some of the rear longitudinal bits are becoming problematic as are bits like handbrake cable brackets,headlight mounts etc.. 61,237 genuine miles now. I bought it in 2012 with 37,000 miles on the clock, with records to prove it too. As I said,I considered a re-chassis ,but too many rusty bolts ,brackets etc would be a nightmare to sort.

Which Disco was that?

Disco 3. Bought new in 2006. Only kept for 2 years. had problem after problem with it and dealership were rubbish. Might have been a monday morning car or something, but had no luck with it.

I got a nice pathfinder 6 weeks ago, really good pulling the big trailer, it's an 08, perfect underneath and nice to drive, only draw back the road tax is big, had a sorrento it was good but bad for rusting.

Nice motors. Just keep an eye on the chassis. Pathfinder is a Navara hard back

Yes had it up on a ramp, is really good, but those kias are famous for rust as well, l like the pathfinder maybe to good for farm car.

Late td5’s are very good I have 15p defender and she has done some work.
