Deficiency
I presume that is the heifer's brain cells.Deficiency
We had one do it 2 years running, bolused with a high iodine bolus 3 or 4 months before, same as the rest who didn't reject their calf. So not always the reason.Iodine deficiency has caused cows to reject their calves here easily cured
I thought I would mention it incase it was helpfulWe had one do it 2 years running, bolused with a high iodine bolus 3 or 4 months before, same as the rest who didn't reject their calf. So not always the reason.
We did have a cow once who would try to kill its own calf depending on the calfs sex, cannot remember which.
Uncle had a cow once that didn't like black calves at birth. Didn't mind anyone else's and was fine with hers after 24 hours but she'd have killed one of her own. Used to have a jacket made out of a feed sack to slip over it as soon as it was born which kept things right. We had one do it 2 years running, bolused with a high iodine bolus 3 or 4 months before, same as the rest who didn't reject their calf. My dad has persevered with cattle like that, different generation different attitudes, possibly caused by the perceived cost versus hassle ratio?Uncle had a cow once that didn't like black calves at birth. Looking back I'm not sure why he kept her but to be fair she made a cracking job of them once she settled down
If you tip 30ml of iodine on her back just infront of the tail you should see improvement in a few days if it is thatThanks for all the feedback guys. I’m not going to give up on her as it will be hassle having to bucket feed the calf. The calf is doing great as she has plenty of milk. I’ll try a few of the things mentioned and see how I go on, cheers
I'm told Lynx Africa does a good job both on fostering and fighting rams.Lamb twinning on spray does the same job. Spray the lambs and up the ewes nose.
An old bottle of old spice also works
