Short term hire or buy/sell?

Normally at harvest I hire a couple of tractors for 3-4 months, but looking at tractor market I reckon if I bought a couple of tidy tractors at right money and then sold them after use, I wouldn’t lose too much money on them?
I understand that I’d need decent credit or overdraft to do this, but does anyone else do this, or is it too easy to get burnt fingers?

With short term hire you are paying a premium price over harvest, but you are insulated against any major problems which are the responsibility of the owner. We had a transmission go this year, cost into teens to fix, if you buy in each year you could easily import something like that.

What work are they doing ,
if carting , mowing fert spraying type of jobs ,
how much is the hire ,
or are they , hard worked prime movers

Mainly grain carting, would also put one on the square baler, and maybe some stubble cultivation’s
As steevo says ,buy the right tractor , and keep them
how much is hire nowadays ,
nothing to show after 5 years of hire ,
only risk is if you have big repair ,
we wanted extra tractor ,ended up buying two ,than 1 expensive 1 , one high hours ,but from a known very good home , but 25 year old ,it lives on sprayer , would like to see 20000 hrs out of it ,and a 17 year old with 3400 hrs , both bought 2 ish years ago , now on 5500 ,
cheaper than hire and gone up in value ,
repairs will be about £1200 plus servicing between them , been cheap usage ,
