Spaldings seeder problem

Having an ongoing problem with my spaldings seeder, no matter how many times I calibrate it I end up putting too much seed on. I’ve even adjusted the rate down to try and compensate for it over applying but it still puts too much on. I’ve checked working width, speed and they’re both right. Can anyone help? It’s driving me nuts

Has it radar for forward speed ?
I have an apv sender and if the radar is positioned wrong it will pick up a false reading. I had mine out the back pointing on to worked ground it put to much on .
Now at front of machine pointing forward and works fine

Hi, it’s running off a gps sensor and it reads the same speed as my Trimble screen, so I’m a bit puzzled really

Has it worked ok previously or is this the first try on the current machine?

I’ve a 12 outlet one that I also use for veg seed. when doing 3m osr I need to blank off half the outlets, then put Y pieces into the lines to split the seed between 2 coulters if we’re on low seed rates.

Also is the machine width correct in the computer?

Tried it sowing seeds/m2 instead of kg/ha once and couldn’t make it work, put on way too much.

I had issues with small seed getting between the flap and solid part of the metering shaft which over time opened the flap slightly which let out more seed. However running it too tightly caused the motor to stall.
I have now burnt the motor out completely and I am unable to locate a replacement motor.

It’s never been right since we got it about 8 years ago, I swapped the radar for a gps unit to see if that would make a difference but it didn’t. I’m using all 8 outlets to double disc openers. Machine width is 3m in computer for a 3m sumo trio

Their just crap, mines the same, always been like it. Put in 3.5kg/ha and drive 4ha, the computor will tell you it's put out 15kg.... useless really

Yes! Exactly this, how can it not work it out properly even when you calibrate it several times and the speed and working width are bang on

I run artemus light control box with gps on our bullock seeder. Calibration etc doesn’t work out accurate. Only way I’ve found is put in certain weight of seed (12kg grass seed bag) and reset area etc. Computer will say 8kg if seed when actually 12kg used. Then go back into settings and reset the weight per revolution from 80g to 120g for example. From then on bang on. Needs a cheap camera off eBay to work well.
Grass seed is bang on 100g/revolution on mine. Write on hopper with permanent marker.

What kind of double disc openers do you use and do you have a press wheel following?

We made a toolbar for the back of the karat from an old accord with cx coulters, but I’d like something more heavy duty.

There is an adjustment which can be made in one of the sub menus, from memory it's the p gain value bit I forget, I adjusted it by a large amount ie 200 and it's closer to being right now.

Mine didn't make it through it's second season, huge disappointment :( now use xpress then vaddy with every other Coulter blocked. More work but it looks better when I'm done.

We've got one and sorry to disappoint but its been fine. We have it mounted on a 3m joker and use it for rape and stubble turnips, osr, grass seed, herb mixes. So long as you have the right rollers in it it works fine.
