and I believe employees are treated like modern day slaves, but people would rather make a fuss about someone dead hundreds of years (so obviously it makes no difference to them) and topple a statue, than do something to stop present day mis treatment of people and interfere with their own eating habits.
I am in absolutley no way making light of repugnent historical slave ownership or saying in anyway that suppliers to UK supermarkets use "slave" labour in any way, but I came across this the other night whilst surfing youtube. But if you take at face value the statement that there are an estimated 27 million bonded labourers in the world today (more than there has ever has been in the past) then surely some of their work must make it to the UK consumer or parts of the supply chain or are at least to foriegn UK holiday destinations. It is unbelieveable that this can go on in this day and age.

Some of that produce will be grown by British owned companies & grown especially for the British market.

Some of those lorries will have a back load of light lambs or cull cow beef.

It must be very serious for the Spanish economy.

I don't doubt the haulage companies need extra income or subsidy.

Its a worry for me, I usually buy a lot of Spanish produce, I would have thought the citrus fruit would be here though.

Wholesaler very worried about the effect on his business.

Spanish buy a lot of our grain too.

Going to be very hard for lots of small independet green grocers/farm shops etc only limited supplies for wholesalers.

Tesco & Aldi etc have rented storage space in the South of France & have filled it this last couple of days. So now trucking back from France the produce.

Will be the last straw for many small business's & make supermarkets even stronger.

I bet you are a quinoa and smashed avocado on artisan bread type of guy when it comes to breakfast, Chae.

Who the heck wants to eat salad for a week after Christmas day? If I've spend good money and time cooking the fudging bird I'm going to do my best to eat the lot.
Nah, like bacon on weekends. Just toast and marmalade during week. I don't have much appetite in morning. Generally feel quite anxious when I wake up in morning for some reason.

They are wrong that slavery was legal in the UK. The Practice was certainly common by Roman times and had been maintained until it was abolished by the Normans, but replaced by Serfdom. This continued till various acts made such practices no longer legal starting of course with Magna Carta. The act of keeping a slave in this country was ruled illegal in 1772 by a binding court ruling by Lord Mansfield where by James Somerset a slave was set free from his master.

Certainly, until very recently, in the last 15 / 20 or so for any UK citizen to do anything they liked, provided it was legal in the territory they were in. It was the rise of Sex tourism particularly Gary Glitter, which saw a curtailment of freedoms in this respect. We actually now have some of strictest rules in the world on what UK citizens can do in foreign lands

I for one am a great fan of salads of all sorts, and will be worry if I cant have some green stuffiver the Christmas period, far better than sprouts🤢
Sorry to those on here who are slaving away on a horrible day to give us our christmas dinner.
Of course what ever salad it is has to be fairly balanced with cold meat of any description and plenty of it😋

a ham and turnip sandwich is not going to cut it.

Piccalilli.

Agreed there should be no need for many fresh summer fruit items this time of year. Traditionally, tomato out of a can, or a chutney/ketchup, lettuce and cabbage in pickle, citrus marmalade, berries out of the freezer or in jam, grapes in dried form.... or wine would be my choice but whatever floats your boat.
