I've noticed here and other forums how some people criticise the spelling and punctuation of others . Is this acceptable as the poster obviously have problems with spelling and puncuation . Why is there a need embarrass the posters faults . We all have a weekness and bullies usually pick on someones weak points for their pleasure. I know spelling and pincuation are important but I would rather people post than not for fear of being ridiculed

I almost always make mistakes. Almost always go back and re-read after a while and find many, though certainly not all of them and try to correct by editing. I don't like making spelling or grammatical errors, probably because English is very much my second language. It is worth the effort of trying one's best. If the 'best' is still incorrect, that's OK. It's the people who make no effort at all to learn and to improve that get me. Everyone should make some effort to improve standards in everything they do, every day. Why? Because otherwise we are no better than the beasts in the field. Worse. Just lazy.

I was saying on a thread the other day that I didn’t reply to some applicants who had applied for a job with me as they had written “fone me plz” on Facebook 🤦🏻‍♂️

Job to read and write let alone type, possibly???

That's OK, as long as they are trying their best to improve and actually recognise that need, which will benefit them greatly throughout their lives. There are various valid reasons why that isn't possible for some people, or rather hard, which isn't something to worry about as long as they try their best. Using the spellchecker helps but, for instance, it will not differentiate between to too and two.

I can't help it but I read a post the other day where there were many 'too' written. Not a single one in the appropriate context. The rest of the post was fine, so I put that down to laziness I'm afraid, whether that impression was fair or not. The point being that it did give a negative impression of the writer.

And if you did "fone" them, they probably wouldn't answer, then immediately text you "who is this?":scratchhead::banghead:

Reading some posts on TFF, I really do question the effectiveness of the UK education system at times . . .

While I tend to agree, at the end of the day it comes down to the individual's responsibility to learn and improve. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
It starts with parenting. Children should be taught how to form letters, recognise colours, count to an extent, and use a knife and fork well before going to school. In many cases that is not the case and children go to school with completely blank minds and parents make zero effort to stimulate, interact or teach them anything, not even how to go to the toilet or wear a coat. Ever. If they start off that way, the disadvantage carries on through school and life unless the child is exceptional and wants to break out of that way of life.

It is how it is for some people. I had the pleasure of extra spelling lessons from the special ed department which consisted of a woman dressed in a tent stolen from an unwary scout saying the words pneumonia and rhodadendron at me over and over again in a broom cupboard on a Friday afternoon. Went on to get a first class hons degree (science) and a BVM+S but some days I still can't spell and just cannot see the errors. I often stick to simple language as I am not going to spend half my life looking up every word. If your spelling ability makes you happy good for you - I bet there are things I can do well that you can't, everyones different.
