the cost / price of parts

Manufactures seem to be taking the pi55 with part prices now, they know that brand loyalty means someone will either buy brand again regardless of the £1800 sensor they had to buy or even if the sensor was only £23 they will buy a rival brand next time so might aswell sting them on the price and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it as all manufactures are at it!

depending on where the gasket is, instant gasket may be no use. Some gaskets are needed as a shim to allow stuff to move and set end float etc. If the gap Is not required, then instant gasket can be used. Wouldn’t tend to use on a compressor though in case a small bit falls off and blocks a one way valve etc.
For me the rule is, if a gasket came off, then it should go back on again.
Manufacturers tend not to use gaskets if they don’t need them.
Try changing the vanes on your slurry tanker vacuum pump and then replace the gaskets with instant gasket to see how you get on.

Many years ago I Put my old corsa sump on By cutting up a Kellogg’s cereal box for gasket because I couldn’t find anything else :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: To be fair it worked
Wel i wouldnt be givin 250 for no gasket. Come to think of it i wouldnt be givin 25 quid unless it was a head gasket or somethin real important

I had a gearbox issue on one of my mowers. Took it apart to inspect found a collapsed Oilite Bearing
Bush causing play so gears wouldn’t mesh properly or change.
Distributor wanted £489+vat and delivery for new gearbox (that isn’t serviceable apparently)
I measured the bushes and found them for £4 each.
The gearbox is now fixed for a cost of £12

I find it’s distributors that take the pee as most parts are not unique and don’t vary in quality too much, v belts are a good example £55 from dealer and £8 from belt supplier both mitsuboshi belts

Recently fixed a compressor on a £1.5m vehicle, with a bit of card I found in the bin.

£250 seems extortionate, the cylinder head gasket wont be that far off that price. Not a simple compressor gasket?
