Does anyone by any chance have a length of chain attached to the rear axlei of the combine, which trails along the ground while in the field, the idea being that the static electricity built up
in the combine can go to ground. Tin hat on for answers!!!!!!!!

The idea being that by reducing the static electricity built up, the amount of dust sticking to the Combine is less?
Is it necessary with the header being on the ground, most headers nowadays will have skid plates of some sort for the float !.
As you say, but I’m not convinced it makes much difference.
It always seems to me that Claas Combines look less dirty than NH’s at the end of Harvest!

This causes many a argument on the combine operators forum. I say it doesnt make any difference as the header plates are usually touching the ground at some point, however others say it does make a difference

Makes no difference. Even if the skid plate on a Claas vario cutterbar Arne on the ground the 6 auto contour bands are, they will have a larger area than a single length of chain hanging down off the axle.
And you have to remember not to drag them along the road or you wonder what that odd noise is !!!!

Tried it last year as i couldnt understand how it would make any difference since the header runs along the ground anyway, it was still as dusty as always made no difference atall

None of the custom cutters l came across in North America did it and those fellas know a thing or two about running combines in dusty conditions. It was a few years back though , maybe they all do now for all l know.
