Thinking of putting a turbo on my 8210

Is that all you dragged her down to? 8210 went down to 432rpm at shaft

You have seen the picture of the smoke?, we didnt think it was wise to go any further, having seen the reading we were pretty sure the 956 wasnt going to get anywhere near it

half revs would be about 1200 engine revs, given rated book speed is 2350rpm, back then before we had the pump rebuilt it was revving to 2700rpm under no load

Well if that was the case fair enough then

Hello,
I just buyed a ford 8210 built in 1990 with 5400 hours on it. I just wanted to ask if i just need to put a turbo on it, thinking about gettin 135-140hp out of it. Im from germany and here we put a holset hx35 on literally everything with 6 cylinders. Do zou think it will fit?

You can probably make it fit, given the correct exhaust manifold and pipes and clamps. It’s a bit old to be fitting a turbo on it in my opinion. Those old Ford engines, while being quite robust, will eventually succumb to the dreaded cavitation/erosion, commonly referred to as ‘porous block’. With less than 200 hours per year done over the last 32 years, it must be a collector’s item to be cherished and ‘shown’ rather than worked to death with a turbo fitted. That’s just my view though. You fit the turbo if you really need the extra power. It will easily handle a 4 furrow reversible plough, a 3.5m power harrow or a Mengele SH40 forager without. It is a great example of a tractor of its time.

I didn buyed it to work it to death i just need it tondrive the silagwagon sometimes or just work with it for fun. I have a t6.175 at home an some other tractors like a Massey 2720 with 2728 hours to work with. It will work like maybe 200 hours a year. Do i need another exhaust manifold?

You could turbo her to 140hp but you would need to have the rad meticulously clean and oil changes done on the dot. But theirs a fair difference in spec between an 8210 and a Tw15 engine, although they do look similar on the outside. Are you on Facebook ? There's a good group called 'the big ford 6 cylinder group' .lots of people willing to help others on there. There's a guy who rebuilt a 6 cylinder to Tw spec. He should be able to tell you what you would need.

The thing is and I hate to throw a hand grenade to the Ford luvies but the TW engine was complete shyte, why would you want to try and achieve its standard I don’t know🤑

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
