TV Licence a.k.a. the BBC tax - no, not again.

Bill Gates paid the Bbc World service to broadcast programmes to Bihar in India.
This was public information broadcasting which has no impact on programming in the UK

I suspect very few of us have any issue with the BBC doing whatever they like, they could have a channel solely dedicated to Elton John songs for all I care, if it works for them, good on em. The part I am not so happy about is the fact I am obliged to fund the BBC despite choosing to watch very much of their content. As others have said, they do some world class wildlife/environmental documentaries, that is great. I see these very same shows are now showing on Amazon too. That being the case, I would sooner not pay the BBC a cent ever again and if they happen to produce a great wildlife documentary I could just buy it on blue ray or from Amazon and pays the money. I just don't like paying the money but not taking any choice in the matter. I don't want to finance their agenda and obvious political slant these days.

I do have to wonder at the outpouring of anti BBC grief on here. It has just about as much common sense about it, as swimming naked in a field of thistles. Sham angst I call it. Right leaning wallflowers, who feel exploited apparently by anybody on a BBC program who might let slip, even a hint of so called left of centre outlook in life.
Forgive them oh Lord, for they really, really know not what they are talking about.

Many years ago in Africa I listened to and - rightly - trusted the World Service; various local despots hated it because it was an unstoppable source of truth for the people there. Now it's just the media wing of a nauseating left-liberal-woke alliance.

This really strikes me as crazy! It's the BBC, it was a bastion of truth and free thinking, education too. Now it ignores 'inconvenient' news, creates other news to support its agenda, and sees its role toward our children not as one of education, but of indoctrination... :yuck:

Yeah but isn't the BBC a propaganda organisation ? A bit like American & Russian radio ... I agree with you in principle the BBC used to be pretty good .. but it now has a massive chip on it's shoulder.

But don't you think the BBC should be politically neutral?

Of course. And I believe they do. People nowadays want only to hear what they agree with. Otherwise they cry fake news!

Surprised that Last Night of The Proms, currently in progress on BBC1, hasn't had a mention on this thread.

Despite various U-turns, we have indeed had Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. Check.

Hopefully Jerusalem up soon.

You'll never walk alone, followed by Jerusalem by the BBC singers accompanied only by the marvellous organ as originally intended.

And The Queen as arranged by Britten.

God bless the BBC for coming to their senses and doing the right thing in the end!
