Two wheels

Goose in the original Mad Max rode a Z didn’t he ?

I bought an old Z1100 at one time that I gave the rattle can black treatment, was a cool old bike but had some expensive issues . . .

in hindsight, I wish I’d kept it

along with the Ducati, the Buell, the NX650 . . .

I have never sold a bike that I didn’t regret afterwards 😢
Funny enough a few later I bought a Z1000ST, it wasn’t half the bike, it was shaft drive, no wheelies, and if you screw it open in a bend the shaft use to lift the bike upright instead of burrying in!

Had this bike in '86.
Loved the look of it.
Had a solid black 900 after, which looked a bit plain.
Picked this one up that took a long time to find in this colour scheme, that someone had put a 900 motor in.🙂
First time out, I'd forgotten how great 16" front wheel and anti-dive was

haha - 16 “ front wheels aren’t so great on gravel, sand or other loose surfaces 🤣

Their not that great on hard black surfaces either 🤣
In the day, these used to suffer from carb freezing in the winter.
Their was a mod for non fair weather riders, but it took some fighting for.
Back in the 80's Kawasaki were sh!t for sorting things.
Had a GPz 400 before this, with same carb prob and cdi issues.
The 400, 750, 900 & zx10 all had replacement rims and fork bottoms, co's paint would flake off.

A mate of mine bought a new GPZ900 in 1983 or 4
He still has it . . .

It’s quite remarkable that it didn’t kill him nearly 40 yrs ago
I think alot of us were lucky to get through the 80's....frame, brakes and tyres weren't keeping up with engine development.
Thankfully there was alot less traffic about.....

So, with the wet weather spent some time playing with bikes.
Pulled the fuel pump out of the WR450 & replaced the filter as the bike let me down last time I rode it.
The pump is in the tank & you have to physically dismantle the fuel pump to gain access to the filter. Can’t buy a filter from Yamaha, only the entire fuel pump assembly.
Aftermarket filter about $18

Success. Great

The dashboard on the Aprilia stopped working a while ago & as a result it’s been unregistered for a year or more. Finally sent it away to get repaired. $500 later it now works, so put it in and all great. I’ll get this bike registered again. Thought I’d start it up while working on WR.
Notice steam rising up from it & liquid dripping underneath, so turn it off.
It’s not overheating & it’s not coolant.
It’s petrol 🤦‍♂️
Lift the tank & find one of the high pressure lines to the throttle bodies is cracked & spraying fuel onto the engine. These bikes did have a reputation for catching fire as the plastic fuel connectors would become brittle & break, dumping fuel on a hot engine while riding it, so I had replaced them with metal ones years ago when I bought it
Will now have to get some new ones made up. At least it didn’t happen while I was riding it
