In the same Times edition, there was also a small article on egg size where it was stated that shoppers have a “fondness for bigger eggs”.
However the British Hen Welfare Trust says that farmers have reported “considerable squawking” from hens laying larger eggs

Now the BHWT is an outfit dedicated to “saving” hens from slaughter by reforming them so perhaps they have an agenda but they may also have a point seeing the fuss my missus made birthing our first child

Vegan food too expensive, or meat and dairy too cheap ?
Yep, really great question.

Think the vegans are perceiving the value in how they live/feed themselves (forget if they're right or wrong for now) and are willing to pay more, whereas other consumers are not so interested about paying the true cost of sustainable and nutritious food and therefore aren't digging deeper into their pockets.

Things are changing slowly so hopefully we can all get a decent price in exchange for produce that is good for everyone.

Can I ask why you did not eat meat
No matter if its personal
Complex really. I have raised pigs, cattle and sheep and sent them the abattoir, even then I didn't eat the meat. I was seriously ill in 2019, and was tube fed for two months. When I did start eating I realised from a nutritional point of view I needed to eat nutritionally dense food, which meat is. Veggi food is very bulky and high in carbohydrates, I am now diabetic, so I now eat only a small amount of carbs

They rescue less than 0.1% of hens and have a brand new " rehoming" building.

They also wouldn't let someone i know who had kept a few hens for decades have any until they had done their course, which of course needed a payment!

I have just bought this book

have not read it yet, but there are chapters on

Veganmania myth Veganism is the healthiest diet
Bringing back the bacon myth all meat is bad for us
The big fat debate myth saturated fat is a major cause of heart disease

I haven't read this particular book, but if you're under the impression medicine/doctors know any facts about human nutrition it will be a wake-up call when you find out they've got most things the wrong way round over the last few decades. Enjoy and welcome to the dawning finally of human understanding about food.

You just have to walk away muttering "let them die then". Might make them think about their morals.

On the thankfully few times I’ve had hospital food, I’m always amazed how they make sure it is not very calorie dense, low fat etc. When an animal is under stress we feed it more, not less!
