Almost unbelievable, but as far a HMG goes it’s a pretty small pot of cash.I think that’s the plan, end sfp and fudge up elms so nobody wants to apply. Big pot of cash saved for hmg
I find any cheque, however small is beneficial to an invoiceAlmost unbelievable, but as far a HMG goes it’s a pretty small pot of cash.

Universal creditThe question maybe should be put to all the defra/rpa/natural England staff, what are they going to do to justify their existence when bps is cut to nothing and the elms has been judged a failure that most farmers wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.
But it is not a case of the cut off being above what people want, it's about the cut off being at a level that enables a family to make a start in farming, all farmers would be entitled to this base amount & large farmers would in fact be better off than what is being proposed at the moment & still be able to do the ELMS projects they are at the moment considering.
At least with this DEFRA have a fighting chance of the majority of farmers getting involved in ELMS in one way or another!
It is a common NFU ploy to deflect critics, years ago I had a breakfast meeting ( handy for us livestock guys) with the then NFU national chairman at the time ( an arable farmer). I brought up the fact that support for hill farmers had been eroded due to NFU influence when government did away with a whole load of support and nobody at the NFU fought this . He responded by making a joke saying that hill farmers would just waste it on land rovers and moved the converstation on, sadly I was not confident enough to challenge him.I’ve made many posts both at the time and since about the ridiculous stance by many large farmers on what you are proposing.
I even remember bringing it up at NFU meetings and Guy smith said “ everyone wants the cut off to be just above what they receive” made a joke of it and killed any constructive conversation dead.
The NFU haven't been a "national" farmers union for an awful long time, it looks after it's paymasters & should drop the NFU name as this is misleading! It is a common NFU ploy to deflect critics, years ago I had a breakfast meeting ( handy for us livestock guys) with the then NFU national chairman at the time ( an arable farmer). Then the NFU were representative of the big boys then and nothing has changed, anybody who does try to participate from the grass roots are either ignored or squeezed out.

Probably because there are more second homes in wales than anywhere else in the country except the Lake District! Then the good lifers who buy their second home want to feel part of the country so join the NFU and buy a chicken...........!It may surprise you that membership of the NFU has increased over the last couple of years!
The largest increase has been from Wales.
