Water Main Cost per M?

A 20mm meter will should have 66 litre/min capacity. To run this 800 meters with 5 bar pressure you will need 63mm pipe. Best check your meter pressure before you start. you may be lucky and have better pressure but in a country setting it may be not so good.
Then there is the other issue of height. Are the properties above or below the meter, for every 33 feet height difference will be 1 Bar

Not necessarily. It depends on the meter design as to Velocity it can allow through.
Against me. Meter is 10m below yard/properties

Hence why I suggest testing at the meter.
1 bar can pump water up to 10 mtr, so if you know the mains pressure - you know your problem at the start 👍

It is a thought but most of consumption is domestic as I don’t house stock much and when I do I have a rain water harvest system set up with 10k litre holding capacity
I'm interested in your rainwater harvest system, as we have a site where we can't put in a borehole. Do you get enough rainwater to water your 340 head all year round? Did you do some kind of calculation around monthly rainfall & water catching roof space & cattle demand?
Was it self funded or did you manage to get a grant?

I have one of these:

taking water of one side of a 6X20ft bay shed.

This then feeds into tanks that are daisy chained together.

I did it all myself without the need for a grant as come to less than £1500 in total inc my time.

I dont house much stock and main use is spray water.

Good stuff, what size pump do you use to get the water to the troughs?

We currently have miserable water pressure to the farm.

The mains and meter is approx 800m from the house/yards, luckily across two fields we own.

It is currently black alkathene, I think it is 20mm, that has been there for many years.

This has to feed the main house, 7 barn conversions(13 beds in total), small caravan site and the yards.

The height gain from meter to farm is approx 10m

I'm toying with the idea of putting in a larger pipe from the meter to the distribution point that the current mains feeds to help increase flow.

Would 32mm pipe be big enough or 50mm, and how much roughly per meter to install?

If its all working now, make it 2" bore (63mm?) and it will work loads better, the "restriction" will only be a short bit at the metre instead of 800m of restriction. If its still slow you then have the option of upgrading the meter.

What are the general costs for getting a new meter installed?

Got some fields that could do with water, got water in one end of the fields but need it at the other as well, it's about 100 acres in total.

I could put pipes down and extend the current water system but just wondered if it would be better in the long run to have another system going.

I think the main is running close to my hedge at the far end.

Just putting in 5 connections onto mains - price works out at £1800 for the 5 connections straight into the main (max 5m of pipework from water main).

All pipework my side of the meters is another separate cost depending on what you need.

1800 for 5... Or 5 at 1800 each?

Suppose if they're digging the hole then the extra meters not dear.

It's priced per connection to some extent.

First three connections are just over £1000 all in, next two they are charging me £800. Direct connection of all 5 into a 9" trunk main.

I don't know how they work their maths out though.
