Hi. Looking at getting myself a set of spanners. Fed up hunting the workshop / fathers van. What make do I go for? Seems you can spend a fortune or very little. Seen some decent draper sets for about £100. Don’t want to spend a fortune but don’t want to buy crap either. Also ratchet spanners? Cheers

Toolstation do a set of spanners for about £30 .
I've several sets about now, very handy, cheap enough to lose, good enough to not want to.
But I do cut spanners up to make special ones, it's cheaper than buying fancy specials.

Bought a set of these recently.....Amazon Warehouse set available for £20+VAT which seems cheap to me. Good reviews too.

Ratchet spanners are handy too and certainly have their place esp for tensioning jockey pulleys.

I like a nice small 3/8 socket set too - usually keep that and a small spanner set together which solves most problems.

One of the boys at work has a Halfords Trade card and gets lots of money discounted for tools. Not too sure what's needed to get one but I sure it's worth checking out. As said it's good quality too.

Avoid Carolus ratchet spanners, they are crap, every one I have had has failed one way or another.
To be honest you wont go far wrong with Draper Expert or Sealey Premium.
Got some Teng ratchets, and they have a nasty habit of clicking themselves the wrong way as you are using them in tight spaces.

If you are going to look after them and want them to last a life time I wouldn’t look to far past snap on flank drive plus. If your going to loose them and not care about them halfords are pretty good!

As @Lincs Lass says, signet is also very good if you can find a supplier, think it comes out the same factory as US Pro.
