Presume the red rafters are to match the colour of the parlour,or couldnt you bear to totally do away with that lely red ? but why not galv the lot ? Looks a sweet job

Cost. Galvanizing has gone up a lot recently and as the As are not going to suffer wet/muck, might as well put the savings elsewhere. Actually think galv/paint looks good as a contrast

Must be top secret if your not putting photos up Baldrick, looks like we will have to wait patiently!

Can start putting up pics again but been dealing with a sh!tstorm clusterfudge over last 3.5 weeks that had the potential to do over any farm not served off a major road and resulted in NFU fully funding Counsel opinion prior to legal action (God bless 'em). Not been a pleasant experience at all.

So be warned anyone who wants to build. Highways are looking at Section 59 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to get developers to help them out with funding cuts. Clever little tool they tried with a Notice of Intention to impose an 18 tonne weight limit on access roads serving my farm due to "severe damage caused by HGV" under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order active for 18 months. Also kept adding to details wanted for a Traffic management Plan and delaying decisions so couldnt discharge a condition fully so was in breach of granted PP & put myself on voluntary stop to avoid an enforcement notice.
The joys of having an incomer retiree living at the top of my drive whispering to planning.............

Sounds like your incomer needs the mocha wagtail treatment!

Has it gone off a bit quick on you having to put the blocks on the float to get the grooves formed?
They make a top job well happy with ours.

No dont think it went off too quickly but we made an error by specifying 20mm gravel in the first load of RC40 which is in the photos Mind you we were using a long handle so needed to get the platform to dig in. Changed it to 10mm from then on & didnt need the blocks after that. Yes. it makes a good groove

Grooveing is better done after concrete is vibrated, roller tamp doesn't vibrate. If vibrated, gravel size does't matter. RC 40 is lovely stuff to groove. Also vibrated concrete is stronger. Is the float new?

My counter argument would be that if you vibrate, you would be pushing the stones down & whilst it would look fantastic, it wouldn't be brilliant for grip. By using a roller and the Accustep, we have a nice grippy surface left:

And yes, the float is new

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
