Zetor/John Deere

Zeters are like a bad wife, they will do the job but you will have a hell of job getting rid when the time comes

Personally don't think there's much wrong with a Zetor built in the last 10 or so years.

I'd have his tractor, my cows won't turn their noses up at it. Plenty power, it'd hardly be laboured on a stock farm. Last fir years.

Mine was a flippant point but If you go down the low cost route it will take a hell of a job getting back to a premium brand if you decide to. We have ran numerous breeds but jd seem to hold their value very well giving you a surprisingly low cost of ownership but like all kit, you don’t keep them for nought.

Depends how frequently you change, I guess. We've just bought a fresh s/h tractor to put a loader on. It is replacing our current loader tractor, which was bought new (demonstrator) 32 years ago. Definitely had our moneys worth out of the old girl :ROFLMAO:

Depends what you're doing with them really, I'm just a humble stockman. I like levers and simple controls. The only time it's nice having a fancy tractor is that 1 week we are flat out at silage

Guess it depends on how many hours you are going to be in it. Bought a 2013 Forterra 130 HSX 3 years ago for not very much money and it hasn't had a spanner on it in 3 years. Cheapest tractor I have ever had to run. I wouldn't want to spend 20 hours a day on one, but good, cheap, reliable horsepower and I would have another.

JD will be much nicer to drive, everything falls nicely to hand and feels well made.Whether it is actually better made im not so sure, without a doubt it will cost more to run than the Zetor.

Buy what you want to drive as. Much nice when you enjoy it I would also look at other brands though you will ge some nice McCormick and nh for money on a jd

Why a JD?

My over riding priority when buying a tractor nowadays is my personal comfort.

So if it hasn’t got suspension a decent seat, press button gear change a clutchless shuttle and air con I’m not interested.

To be honest the vast majority of tractors built in the last 15 years will tick those boxes.
Well

We have a new NH dealer in the area. He seems to be eating into Zetor men in the area. I see a good few who say they got good value for their Proxima Zetors in trade deals.
That said, my 17 year old Proxima won’t be turning blue anytime soon.

Christ, the Zetor will be more of a tractor than any compatible new NH :censored:

If you look at new Zetor price, you might not be calling them low cost anymore!

Having had both Premium..ish and Zetors, over the years, I have not been unhappy at a Zetor.

If only I could have found one last year, I'd have bought another new Zetor. A certain dealer in the NW was less than impressive at comms and I could not find any more local to home, so I have an Orange tractor now...

This sums up what I am thinking now. It is an age thing for me because that is not how I thought 10 years ago. It doesen't have to be JD they just came to mind as the most popular premium brand. My next tractor will probably be my last so I want to get it right. My local dealer (where I would probably get the best trade price) also sells Hurlimanns, any of you Cumbrian folk run XB's or XM's and if so how do you rate them?

Hurlimann will be extatic to see their name almost in the same breath as "popular premium brand" :ROFLMAO:

They're just SAME in a different colour. Decent enough tractors but nothing fancy and depreciation won't be any better than the Zetor. And Zetor will have a better dealer/parts network
