So the weigh bridge in the markets are bang on are they!!!!!
I’ve never found them that much out , for starters cattle loose more than farmers think and second their scales at home are not tested , I find farmers moaning about mart scales usually just the local exentric that has some crazy axe to grind that would still moan if the mart added 50kg s on !

Yes your correct, in the store ring they can be generous on weight when grouping 6 steers at 12 months old.

They don’t up north but do in Scotland I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or not , more skill required buying no weight , easy when they weighed 😂
I,ve not bought stores in market for a few years now, figures did,nt stack up, when i did, i did,t bother looking at the weigh bridge or you would,t buy any thing.

There's a place for both but it depends on your circumstances. Most of our cattle go dead, reasons being the 6 day rule, convenience, say 15 out the yard first thing every 3 weeks or most weeks on the trailer with a few hours to spend with them and TB restrictions, we need a pre movement test at the moment. But for TB 1 we would take more live, a few smart ones or over 16 month bulls and it's a nuisance not having the option at the moment. Different cattle are better off at different abattoirs due to different grading methods. All our hoggs go live, probably best for export types but it's a pain as it means keeping a week free from buying cattle.
