It was tremendous. I touched the 50,000 Gns Shearling, and still haven't washed my hand.

That's what realistic people do.The true value is when you take the top fifteen 'funny' prices out, reduce the number by fifteen and work out the average then. Last year it worked out at about 800 quid.
I became a little disillusioned with Carlisle despite selling there for a few years. From a spectators perspective with my bum on a seat I saw a lot of sheep down on their fetlocks or being driven one way round the ring to hide faults with gait or even manhandled to the center and held where there was no chance to observe gait at all. The society is so proud of being the biggest single breed sale that the inspection at the gate by society representatives seemed to err on the softer side of criticism.
A tup down on his fetlocks isn’t worth a crap. Nor are the ones that bounce on their hocks as they walk around. Might be alright in a Croft with 10 ewes. But not in a commercial setting of 1:40/1:50 in bunches of 150 ewes plus. But as crossing tups to produce high-value prime lambs, it's not vital that they are correct. All they need to do is tup as many ewes as possible and hopefully last a few seasons. Just like a Blueface Leicester.
They are not the sires of pure hill and upland breeds, so have completely different desirable traits.
Did they all survive the heat?
