Has anyone on here ever used a guttler drill for drilling turnips / rape into sprayed off pasture ? I had thought of going over thr field once without drilling to create a tilth then over again with the drill going to get a better soil to seed contact ?
all opinions and suggestions welcome , thanks
Finally got the chopper to work on the tx34. New gas strut so it can be folded into work, new idler pulley and bearings, put all the belts on and worked out how the clutch works and hey presto the chopper works. However when I first ran it up it was vibrating like crazy. Stopped it and the...

That's why ELMS is a sh!tfest.
Not because of the Goldsmiths, or Carrie, or Packham, or the Moonbat, or Craig Bennett, or Tony Juniper.
Because of farmers putting it into the head of @Janet Hughes Defra that there are 'good' and 'bad' ways of farming.
That's why countless...
Hi, we are farming in Victoria, Southeastern Australia. Primarily growing grass to feed beef cattle. Currently, we are having a very wet winter, which is leaving paddocks very wet, and due to grazing cattle, my paddocks are being damaged or pugged with hoof prints. Our paddocks are very flat...
Andrew Atkinson, farm consultant with Strutt & Parker.
Work carried out by Strutt & Parker has shown that profit margins for UK arable farmers are expected to be down by more than 50% for harvest 2023.
Lower commodity prices, higher working capital requirements and a drop in Basic Payments as...
Hi,
I usually only use a Carrier 3m before drilling with a 3m Rapid. Problem is, i feel even if waiting as long as possible for the soil to dry out, in a system without ploughing, the soil is often still not quite dry enough. I get OK yields, but just wonder if i could do something to avoid...
For one Fife farm, working with AHDB to gather scientific data behind its regenerative farming approaches is set to pay dividends, both financially and environmentally.
Balbirnie Home Farms has been working with AHDB for the last three years as its Strategic Cereal Farm in Scotland.

Afternoon all,
Today we've published a handbook containing all the detailed information about the sustainable farming incentive offer for this year.
The handbook is here:

An overview blogpost is here...
Let’s start a harvest 23 thread! So how far do we all think we are from starting? Winter barley rapidly ripening here early start is on the cards. First week of july maybe, rape just starting to lose its greenness also!
So it’s clear from many other threads that SFI seemingly offers very little or nothing that’s attractive to livestock / grassland
so what do you want ? Use this thread to outline your own livestock / grassland SFI standard that both delivers public goods and natural capital for tax payers...
I'm trying to get a list together of every farming publication out there, as we are planning a new publication launching in November and we want it to have a unique angle.
Could you let us know what magazines/publications you read the put a star next to the one you like the most?
G'day everyone! I am from Australia and we have had a horrifically wet start to our cropping season I have been unable to plant 300ha or there about of my annual program. I am now looking to grow something in the early spring instead on those unspent hectares. Sunflowers seem like a good one to...
Whats this AB6 he was on about, leaving stubble over winter and get £522 pounds a hec. Been trawling through dozens of gov. uk pages where they say a lot but typicaly tell you nothing.
Is there an industry standard for the above term? Nowadays it seems to encompass a wide range of drilling techniques/ systems but other than being called a one pass system cannot see the difference between doing some elements separately. Is hooking up a subsoiler in front of power harrow combi...
Hello we're considering purchasing one of these machines to rake straw, scratch a stale seedbeds and create tilth in a direct drilling establishment regime.
Has anyone any user experiences?
Thanks
I am on panel chaired by David Exwood next week at the cereals event speaking with Janet Hughes
I have been asked to talk about my experience of Sfi pilot and Sfi so far .............. frankly I don't have a lot to say on that as it's been pretty straight forward other than issues around how...
