Does anybody do this? Looking at a 6m drill, to match in with our 32m sprayer. Been told it can be done. Just wondering if anyone on here does, and how you got round it? Cheers
Last couple of years we ve had big crops of rape, dad maintains that the lambs won't do on the stalks once the leaves have been eaten. I just think its a waste.
What do others do?
You have blackgrass and sow from Early October onwards and struggle with conditions. Your wheat is pretty clean but will probably not achieve full yield.
Your so called expert associate thinks you should start drilling in early to mid September and get drilled up in good conditions to hit higher...
Ok I will admit I’m a sceptic to some extent regarding DD but will never say never....

Belt and braces,
1250g/ha Pendimethalin, 120g/ha Flufenacet and 30g/ha Diflufenican = £35/ha
Avadex granules = £40/ha
TOTAL £75/ha
Not applying the Avadex is a big saving, what do others do in blackgrass fields?
Winter beans. What’s ideal depth ? 4inches? I guess main issues are crows and pre-em. Have ploughed or claydoned in previously so been well buried. Pre-ems obviously quite strong, pdm, kerb and some clomazone potentially.
Considering to grow spring barley this year again, and wondering if there’s more feed value of whole cropped it and clamped it? I would feed it to my finishing cattle with around 7kg of rolled barley, I’d add silage maize if required. Anyone else finishing cattle with grain and whole crop ?

Direct drilling on heavy clay soils is tricky. There is a lot of great advice out there, but from those on many different soil types. As direct drilling hinges on soil I thought it would be useful to have a thread based on heavy-ish clay soils alone.

Beans have beaten my pre em spray. I'm mad with myself. Drill guy told me they were in 6 or 7 inches. Turns out it's nearer 3. Went to have a look today with a view to spraying tomorrow and there's 40 -50 % emerged. Gonna drop the kerb but I'm tempted to go with the clomazone. Agronomist seems...

Has anyone drilled direct into a sprayed off ley successfully?
Have a bit that has been round up’d 10 days or so and starting to yellow. Has been grazed by the cows but not tight. Would just drilling discs do a good enough job or do a bit with the system disc ?
Thanks
So Blackgrass, Cleavers and Charlock are the main issues.
For Blackgrass, Kerb is the only effective option. And needs to be pre-em? (Blackgrass isnt awful)
How well would a Nirvana work on Cleavers?
Could I get away with dropping the rate of Nirvana and boosting with some straight Pend and...
