Grassweed burdens in winter wheat are higher than usual in many areas this season, leaving many fields requiring additional control measures to protect crop performance and reduce grass seed return to the soil, warns Agrovista.

A word of caution….
I sold my 2015 Amazone UX3200 sprayer a few weeks ago because it had done 70,000 acres and it was also tactically the right thing to do from a deprecation/tax point of view.
i bought it new, and I can honestly say it never once let me down. Ever.
I wanted a new Amazone...
I know this sounds absurd.
Just under 200 acres.
How difficult can it be?
But now we are required to be “qualified” in every aspect from agronomy, fertiliser planning, driving various bits of machinery etc and to attend ongoing training to gain CPD points I really just don’t have time to do...
I am wondering aloud. In order to protect the efficacy of Broadway Star and use it less often than twice in three years or every other year what would be the next best spring herbicide to use?
There will be wild oats and brome mainly as well as broadleaves.
Would you use Broadway Star again...
Well I guess it’s time to start another annual thread about how peoples crops are looking at the start of the year.
All pics taken today.
Generally I’m pretty happy at present other than one but of rape that looks a bit thin in places thanks mainly to pheasants🙄
Wheats

Two year...
Ive grazed wheats now for a couple years with positive effects and no yield penalty.
But never grazed winter barley.
Anything I should think about before a chuck a few hundred in lamb ewes out on barley?
Worried about the growth profile differences between wheat and barley.
Consider your spring herbicide programme carefully to avoid carry-over of any residual activity from spring applied SU herbicides, particularly if it remains dry and then turns wet later in season...
“This is particularly the case for those growers who are thinking about increasing the areas of...
After 6 years of min till and regen type activity we grew a good crop of blackgrass in the wheat this year.
Going to plough later on for spring barley but I thought that I would try to grow as much as possible by making a grass seedbed.
Nothing at all grew since harvest of the wheat finished...

New data from Corteva has shown high levels of control of volunteer oats in the autumn with its Broadway Star herbicide.
Unwanted oats are typically addressed in the spring, but if left unchecked for months volunteers can impact yield.
Trials...
Due to a delay in winter oats seed delivery we are going to have to drill much later than normal. We're in the NW in Northern Ireland/high rainfall area and unfortunately the weather broke 10 days ago and brought 100mm of rain with it.
The parcel of ground we have earmarked for winter oats...
What options are there for cleaning seed for our own use, we would be looking to clean 20 to 25 ton a year of wheat barley oats and beans.
We grow everything for a feed and although we aim to have clean crops sometimes end up with an odd wild oat or a bit of sterile brome in the sample which we...
What level of percentage control does something like a disc get on chitted stubbles?
we’ve got some grass weed fields that have greened up nicely but we won’t drill till mid October onwards so do I glyphosate now and then again pre drilling or do we disc now to kill the growth (does it though...
Farmers planning to get back into oilseed rape growing this autumn on the back of sustained high commodity prices should invest in husbandry from the off to ensure maximum return – with pre-emergence weed control strongly advised to ensure crops get away well.
That’s the advice from Agrii...
Please everybody in Scotland write to their MSP about the madness of the debate in the Scottish Parliament that eating meat is to be banned by 2040. NFU get your arse into gear and crush this madness!
We have had a 17 year old helping this harvest. I have tried to keep his hours down a bit from the others and give time off more regularly. When it came to do the pay run I was told that under 18 can only work a 40 hour week. Is this right or is it a mix interpretation of the laws/rules?
Thank you
