Is it a -7?We had a -5k and a -6, both good diggers, had a -8 on Hire for a month, biggest piece of sh1te we have ever used, dead as a doornail and very very unsteady, bravin hard on diesel. The JCB and Volvo we hired were far better diggers. All using the same size buckets. We very happy to be sending the Komatsu back
Thats interesting we found the Komatsu 130 -8 to be a very well balanced machine. We use ours for loading big self propelled muck spreaders with big sludge buckets. We find them very stable and have been the most reliable machines we have. They are getting a bit tired now though with 7000 + hrs on them

This one had 2500 hours and had a 4ft bucket on it working with clay. It really was awful but the -5k and-6 we have were real good diggers

-6 komatsu one of the best out there still prefer it over newer ones! -7 130 kommie excellent, well balanced great in the soft, can't comment on -8 although some reports were poor and -10 138 is excellent(still no adblue etc) although not done a huge variety with it. Other makes Volvo nice rate them, hitachi not what they were, doosan good but emissions gubbins can be a pain and some say sore on fuel. Case would be choice over kommies just on reports I hear and just to throw out there..... how about a hidromek [emoji848] Turkish built been around for years but only just starting to get noticed in U.K., think they will do well[emoji106][emoji106]

@JPM ,,is there anything mechanically wrong with your cat or just the amount of hours ,,only wondering as my landlord has got a yard build this year and a load of other little jobs ,,trying to convince him to buy a decent machine (so I can drive it )instead of hiring in

Nothing mechanically wrong. It's just the hours and the fact it doesn't have a quick hitch really. Spent a lot on it in the last 5 years. Replaced both track motors (£3400 each[emoji22]) its had new chains & sprockets last year. New water pump.

We have a 33t, 21t and 14.5 ton Hyundai's and a 13t liebherr. I'm the fitter. The Hyundais get a bad name being cheap Korean built but they perform better than the liebherr and consumables are cheaper and easier to get. The liebherr saves about 30% on fuel compared to the Hyundai though.

Not sure? What's it worth?[emoji51]......

Good points are the replaced parts,
(Chains, sprockets, both final drives) very good engine starts when u look at the key even in frost. Recently serviced, replaced all filters, radiator hoses, fan belts. Even fitted a CD player & LED worklights to keep the operator happy[emoji23].
No leaks to speak of, dipper ram weaps slightly nothing much though.

Bad points - needs quick hitch fitted and re bossed & bushed at end of dipper boom. (Rest of bushes & pins are all perfect)

1 broken bolt on injector pump mounting, just holding by 2 but has been working fine like that for a while.

Main reason for upgrading is we've taken on more land so a digger has 2/3 years of work ahead of it and so we're looking for something a bit fresher to get through the work

Have you considered an Atlas?

Over 7000 hrs on ours and still drives like a brand new machine. Maybe a bit more money to buy, but I would suspect one of the best built makes. Only negative would be cost of repair if you did have an issue with it.

Well you know what you have do would you be better spending a bit on it and keeping it?

Yeah that has been the thoughts for the last couple of years. But although it'll probably be fine for lots of hours now. It is a constant effort keeping old machines running and I've got enough of them as it is[emoji1] And when a digger brakes down it's always in a gutter hole in the pissing rain & wind.[emoji23]

Oh I know the feeling :ROFLMAO: we were in same position with one of our diggers, had spent money on it and didn't know whether it was worth to keep or spend abit more and keep it. We have decided to spend abit more as we know what we have and like it, plus it's only doing around 1000 hours a year now so not doing the same work. Hope to get it pinned and bushed soon and resprayed (y)
