13 tonne excavator. What to buy?

just to go off slightly , anybody any opinons/advice on flails , was thinking of using one on my 2.5 mini for trimming our own hedges around a acre paddock as i dont really have a tractor big enough for a proper hedge cutter and thought this may be a option :scratchhead:

It possible no doubt, but before you even start don’t think you’ll stick the flail out and go tracking along, they won’t do it, you have to do a section and move alon.
I’ve a flail on a 2 ton which is alright, from these lot https://robustrack.co.uk/ it’s not the fastest thing but does the job, but bare in mind you on a machine that’s around 20hp at the engine driving oil pumps so your never gonna get the performance of a mcconnell on a 100hp tracto.
For my bigger machine I’ve a slanetrac mower that’s more like a bladed topper, I prefer it to a flail for a lot of stuff, it’s really simply built and doesn’t seem as power hungry as a flail, mines the fh100 model and when we get the chance I’m gonna try it on my mates 2.7 ton kubota as I think it will drive it. They do an fh80 which I think a 2.5 ton machine would boss easily.

I run a flail on my 8t, it’s a beast for mincing down the briars and thick stuff. Not sure I’d want to do a lot of hedge sides with it. Obviously you’re swinging in an arc so you’d need to do very small sections at a time to keep it even.
I can track and flail at the same time but the geometry of the flail means I need the dipper a long way out to get it upright so that makes tracking in a straight line difficult. Could alter the pins to improve this.

That said, it is possible and if all you’ve got to do is one paddock then it’ll be fine 👍.
