Apologies for dragging this up Alistair but I’ve got my DF1 (new to me) on the tractor today and it’s driving a homemade 12 outlet tine drill. It’s got an rpm sensor and is saying 4000rpm which is only just enough air at the back. We need more details and pics of the rear end .Yes it makes perfect sense and I wondered the same; the rpm sensor is like nothing I’ve ever seen before; proper old school but it looks legit-sensor off the fan driving an ANALOGUE dial with a 12v feed off the battery! It’s just under 4000 at the mo and to be fair it works in the yard; but I’m used to a proper ‘blast’ of air on the sprinter with the same (metcalfe) coulters…which is 16 across 4m without diffusers on the coulters although there is a perforated section on the Horsch after the Venturi but before the splitter…I’ve also got some good looking but technically not ideal bends in my pipework-it goes inside and parallel to the track the other side-shame the outlet is out the top on a DF1View attachment 1173648
I know. But I thought it worth a try as the pipe can stay on all of the time if it works. If I were to do a more conventional horizontal pipe it would be significantly higher (currently exits under the rear mudguard) so exacerbating the rear ‘u’ where it goes down then up into the splitter. But I have created an extra ‘u’ at the front…Certainly your pipe routing is less than ideal

Yes completely safe what sort of RPM sensing system are you running obviously not Accord ESC. Your biggest killer with only 12 outlets will be back pressure you want some of those air exhausts that claydon / weaving use they are a readily available from either just to loose the air out the system if that makes sense
Yes no problem.Are these hoppers ok for fertiliser? Looking at putting fertiliser onto our powerharrow mounted maize drill but would need to be through a front tank. As an aside what would be the best coulter for placement to 3 inches? Double disc, single disc? Thanks
Thank you, some great advise. Will only be putting on 50kg/acre so will cope fine by all accounts. Run the maize drill fan on hydraulics too so an oil cooler sounds just the trick.Yes no problem.
About 3cwt/ac on a 3m combi is about the limit though, she's pretty well full open at that. If you need more you'd have to change the gears, but as said it will struggle to blow more at that sort of rates.
I run mine at 4200 -4500rpm and it's fine. Take off all the speed control crap at the hopper and use tractor spool to control the speed.
I have the return pipe plumbed through a oil cooler mounted on the hopper in the fans inlet flow so it both cools the oil and heats the air which helps in damp conditions. Mate did the same on his and the temp difference on his backend oil on a Valtra was amazing, can't remember but it took 20 or 30 degrees out of it.
