Obviously, you have never employed British people to do manual labour.
putting ten plants in a bunch is not rocket science
being told by young lady to f*** myself when I repeatedly point out she has put 8 or less in a bunch. Thats not rocket science.
being offered sexual services is not rocket science.
employing eastern European polite attentive, willing , keen, turning up early, not stopping till after the clock has turned, that’s rocket science

Good point but that's mostly because unemployment was low so you were probably picking from the bottom of the barrel. Thousands of good workers are now doing nothing. They just need pointing in the right direction and training. Unfortunately some businesses have got so used to using cheap, desperate people to work for them they are unwilling to actually put any effort in to recruit and train. Easier to ring an agency and order a plane load.

Don't be derogatory if you've not done what you preach yourself.

Recruitment of seasonal staff, PAYE, pensions etc is a royal pita for temporary workers - that's basically what you pay the agency for - and if (and by average there will be some) a picker is disruptive, unreliable or just no good, then you ask the agency not to send them again. Some of our pickers are Brits, some Eastern European. Mostly through agency, a couple of locals direct. Some pick it up quickly and are very good, some just want paying and don't give a hoot.

Trouble is, it ain't the 1950's anymore. You can't amble about picking one crate of cabbage per hour. You've got to keep up with cutting/packing rigs these days. Having a tractor up your arse ( oohhh matron ) all day isn't for everyone. I wouldn't want to do it. It's a young man's game. And UK youngsters are all bred like Kevin ( Harry Enfield ) thanks to the Blair years.
