Andrew Neil's 'GB News'

He's back... having been dumped by the BBC for being too competent and objective, he has managed to get the finance together to start a new 24hr news channel. As I've written before, I don't 'like' Mr Neil as a character, but that is irrelevant; he is a very good journalist and interviewer who demonstrates no political bias in his work - which is only as it should be, and it seems crazy that he should stand out for this.

It's due to start in March, and I look forward to seeing his new channel and will be interested to see who he recruits to staff it; he is in the market for about 60 television journalists who have a record competence and impartiality, any suggestions?

And who is the chief funder for this channel? Hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall who has repeatedly talked about sacrificing UK agriculture for preferential trade deals on financial services with the US , India and Australia. Carful what you wish for!

And who was his boss when he was in other jobs? Doesn't matter, he has professional integrity so I'm not bothered who funds it provided that the journalism, both reports and interviews, is objective and thorough.

(Surely you can't think AN to be that bad, he's a Francophile, isn't he?)

Andrew Neil, no political bias :ROFLMAO:
I've no doubt that he has political opinions - who hasn't? - but I can't think of any time he has let them interfere with his work. Party is of no relevance, Tory, Labour, DUP, UUP, SF, SDLP, UKIP / Brexit (as was)
, SNP and others, all of their bods get grilled to the same standard, and quite right too.

I guess, because of his personal circumstances, that he was against Brexit, but I don't know that because he hasn't stated his view publicly, as far as I am aware anyway. And, during the referendum campaign and since, he has hauled Remainer and Brexiteer alike over the coals so, regardless of his personal view on the subject, he's fine by me. Ditto Scottish independence, he's had Unionists and the SNP made to justify their claims; and others on every other 'contentious' issue too.

This is what fellows in his position should do, and it's vitally important to our democracy that such is the case; again, I find it crazy that someone doing this should stand out when, self-evidently, it should be the norm. ITV, Sky (UK, anyway) and, most of all, the BBC have proven themselves incapable of objective interviewing and reporting for a decade or more now, and the sooner a credible alternative comes online the better.

Provide evidence for your assertion...

He was very supportive of Brexit (maybe not the deal, or leaving with no deal... but definitely the principle of leaving the EU) and is a strong Conservative supporter and has never hid either. He is chairman of The Spectator which was found to be one of the most pro-brexit broadsheets

I think your opinion of him is clouded by the fact his views align with your own.

He is one of the better journalists, but that isn't hard given standards. But to say he is unbiased is wrong, in my opinion.

I will concede it is hard to get an unbiased journalist, though.

Maybe he's simply no more than a supporter of democracy and is willing to let all have a shout and be debated?

Just need to add Isobel Oakeshotte and her f*ckbuddy and you have a full hand.
I heard last year that Nigel Farage was also in on this. Perhaps thats why he's been honing his "Nigel investigates" skills.
Sorry to dissapoint you.
But maybe another reason for you not to watch and ignore the opposite viewpoint?

What, you mean Nigel Farage is in on Isobel Oakeshotte as well? That threesome might be worth watching for some people.

Frankly even if he is on the right, who cares? If you don't like him don't watch him. At the moment however we have no alternative to liberal/left news media which completely distorts the national discourse and is divorced from how at least 50% of the populace think.

Good luck to him I say.

Funny you should mention bosses as Sir Paul Marshall was Rishi Sunak's old boss. They are all part of the 55 Tufton street mafia.

Yup I agree with you. I also can’t warm to him as he comes across on TV - he maybe a different chap in private but as you say he doesn’t take any prisoners and grills all possible sides equally deeply to the point of making them uncomfortable - this is what we need
