The exlana respond well to good grazing as much as they do well enough on crap grazing. We wean at 12 week average and I’d expect to kill 1/3 or more pure weather lambs to average 20kg at weaning. This year when we went onto roots in December there were only a small handful of exlana lambs left to finish, which would have been ewe lambs offspring born into end of June.

I was getting the impression that they need to be run very tough to stop them getting mastitis from bagging up too much.
No mine are fine, no mastitis in a Exlana sired ewe yet out of 300+, some of them are on seriously good young leys next to the coast that gets fert added as they lamb. They havnt seen anything but grass and a lifeline tub - triplets did go onto RC and turnips for a few weeks before going onto their old ley lambing paddocks.

People slap the term ‘easy care’ on any shedding sheep when most are rubbish, like any breed it’s about the breeder and not the breed. There are very few thorough and good breeders of ‘easy cares’ the best of the best would be pure Exlana from @Tim W and his company on here.

Easycare is trademarked so any poor imitation that use the name could land them selfs in trouble lol, the original flock on Anglesey are very good sheep though , and tbf Iolo deserves some praise for creating a composite before composite breeds was a thing

This batch of mine are going to be moved somewhere less lush tomorrow I hope, they have almost finished lambing now and the newborns are having a job getting about in places. It is lovely to have too much grass for a week or two.

This lot are having another batch added to stop them having the same problem

What would the typical weaning rates be of a exlana ewe be we are weaning about 1.8 from easycares (counting the pets as well) just wondering what the likes of a exlana ram would be like on the easycare ewes?
