So i seen a video farmtheoryni did on cow house lighting about increasing light to increase production. Can some1 reccommend standard led bulbs that will give plenty of light, not cost the earth, wont be hard on electric and have alot of years service. Iv a 6 bay shed with a 5 bay feedpassage that has 11 holders

You won’t need as many led s and they use a lot less electric.
but like @jimmer we only turn them on when we need to see. (Apart from the calving shed)

I might be looking at this from a human perspective rather than a cows. But our shed can be a bit chaotic at times to my theory was have 1 light left on over night might be a good thing ?
Im not sure, apparently if you get good light to them 16 hours a day it increases intake so therefore increases output.

If you've got 12,000+ litre holsteins in perfect sheds with feed constantly in front of them, auto scrapers etc etc and are looking to add 250-500 litres per cow for little investment then by all means install led lights on timers for 16 hours a day and infrared lights by night

If you haven't got perfect sheds and systems nor 12,000 litre cows then the lights won't add any production to your cows.

You'd be better off with some simple cheap flood lights at each end of the shed and maybe a couple in the middle depending on how big it is for your benefit - not the cows

we have orange sodium light in the cubicles, led in the feeding area, works well, but if the trip goes, or power cut, seems to work just as well without them.

there are firms that specialise in the 'correct' lighting for cattle sheds, it is assumed it is better for the cows. But they managed well enough for a few 1000 years without.

and it relieves us of a bit more of our cash. Don't know if right or wrong, but it seems to feel sensible to us, whether the cows agree or not 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

you are learning fast đź‘Ťđź‘Ť

but if anything like the rain we had yesterday/last night, are your cows still out ?

9mm last feb, 75mm so far this feb, or as they say, 'febuary fill dyke', trouble is, the fecking dyke was full, long before feb arrived, this year.

Farm down the road from here spent £30000 on fancy lighting ,haven’t heard if there producing more milk or not . I think it’s another gimmicky thing , which is so hard to say if more light encourages more milk or that the the silage they ate that day produced extra

@daveydiesel1 don't listen to all farm theory comes out with. He loves himself and loves the sound of his own voice. Really annoys me the way he talks about "his" farm and what "he" has achieved. It's the father's farm. He hasn't bought an acre. His father and two workers are in the background. He has said he has an agenda with all this TikTok and YouTube stuff. Public office?? Would suit him well.. full of hot air!
