Got some short grazed out fields to fertilise with some triple super (index 1 for p ) shortly , going to add some red and white clover to mix and take advantage of this wet weather , is it ok to graze after spreading as hoping to keep sheep running to help push in clover seed for few days / week

If the triple supers is not spread very evenly, there is a danger that ewes and lambs can ingest some of it by error or design and end up with an iriritated digestive system - possibly leading to 'feet in the air syndrome'.

I would apply the clover now, but wait until the stock can be removed before applying phosphate.

PS. 'Feet in the air syndrome' is a recently identified sheep affliction, so you won't find it in any sheep-diseases text books.

It’s one of those things it’s bad to advise because they say you should take sheep off because tsp can poison them potentially
They would need a hell of a lot to poison them a few hundred grams In some cases that’s even more x the weight in fertiliser
We have put a lot of tsp on in the past and not taken sheep off
Probably better to try and put it on when it’s wet or going to rain then it will be on the way to washing in so they can’t pick it up anyway

I’m not sure how to say it but we have spread plenty and not moved anything but it’s bad to advise other folks what to do it’s your call really
How much are you putting on?

soil tests recommend 50kg/ha or @40 units / ac ,so not a huge amount , needs some k as well ,but that will have to wait till autumn as no one around here has stock

Yes that’s similar to what we put on for a ‘correction’ not dangerous amounts really
We have seen most progress with tsp transforming bad pasture into productive pasture compared to anything else
land was excellent dairy farm always had muck/ lime put on , when brothers got ill was let for silage and just got plastered with nitrogen for ten years / 3 cuts ,so was expecting p and k issues when we bought it , just glad was index 1 and not lower , as need to get p right for clover growth

We have been putting it on for years now you don’t need much either the clover has appeared all by itself.

It’s the fluorite in the phosphate rock that’s the nasty bit. It’s worth mentioning that sheep that are in lamb and or on bare going are the ones at much higher risk.

Is it possible to direct drill or broadcast seed into the field first and then graze immediately? Clover and herbs do not need P to germinate. However they do need P to grow once the seedlings are established with plenty of light getting down to the soil.
Apply all the P you require later when the seedlings are robust enough to drive over.

yes could do that thanks , just difficult to regulate seed rate ,(edit :could mix with sand ) will use bike and small 12v spinner , topped off pasture with drum mower which has opened it up quite well ,
