Badger Population

works better with a 3 prong pick, just forget about the middle prong, if only ..........
In all fairness the badger sett is on our ground and is on maps from the 1850's. We've grazed cattle in the field and never had a reactor so I was quite happy to leave them there in parole. No idea what's happened but the holes are grassing over now as if empty. Hope there's no infected ones moving in now.

we had 18 setts, on 180 acres, sandy soil, buggers were everywhere. We are in a cull zone, and most of those setts are now empty. Which is fine, but we were TB free, presumably because the high density of clean badgers, kept infected out. We are 'TB free', at least till august, next 6mnth test, but farms around us, are now going down, with one, or two, and inconclusives-which sometimes are worse.

The problem is how do we know when the badgers are TB free, whilst your's were clear in the past it's possible it's in the area & only a mater of time before it spreads to yours, the ministry should be trapping badgers on any farm that goes down with TB & if infected go back to clearing all sets on that farm & adjoining farms as they used to do when it was all but wiped out.
Culling helps but if one infected badger remains it simply delays the spread of the disease.

but its a political very hot potato
until a proper policy can be agreed by all interested parties, nothing will work, but just like finding the holy grail, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
