Best machine for grassland overseeding?

Has anybody used the Palatine PP Rip or similar type machine? If so, are they any good at creating tilth on a grassland field for overseeding? Or would a modern chain Harrow be as good?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the cultivation aspect of it, but I'll be doing some overseeding with one of these this coming season.

Overrated machines in my opinion, seen better and more consistent results , with just a set of old discs, and a chainharrow or einbok type and the old vicon to sow the seeds.

Time will tell. Our cultivated reseeds have sat with water since October and will need patching up, with a poor strike despite flat rolling. Headlands established better with more consolidation. Usually get good results with temporary leys into wheat stubbles which this will be fine for, plus hopefully an economic way of getting more bulk into existing thinner swards after cutting.

I have one of these and it works great in the right conditions . It works in certain conditions where nothing else works. Too much trash left behind is not good for young seedlings to get through. I have got great results in non sprayed off ground . All in all a very handy way to establish grass .

Plough, powerharrow, roll, drill, roll. Decent seed is £70/acre now, it’s worth making a proper job of it.

I’ve tried the min till/ direct drill route and you just end up re doing it and using a load more seed. I don’t bother drilling twice, seems fine on standard 12.5cm spacings. You can see the lines in this picture

In trials done here between 6 systems in the same field on the same day , same seed rate , the Erth came out on top, the ploughed area was the worst. The weather was dry and the Erth sowed plot got the seed into the ground at the right depth for maximum germination. The Erth sowed plot was the first plot that was fit to graze. I sowed with the Erth here in august, I had 300 kg weanlings on it until yesterday, they done no harm after all the rain, if it was ploughed I would have got no grazing off it this autumn with cattle.
