Black grass sprays in forage maize

What chemical options are people using to control black grass in forage maize?

Last year I used PDM pre-em and a nicosulfuron post em but poor results.

Would dual gold or wing -P alongside PDM be a more robust pre-em option for black grass ? I know they are not cheap!!

thanks

I wouldn't rely too heavily on nicosulfuron and maister when it comes to blackgrass in maize.

A good seed bed, the use of PDM and hope the maize outruns the stuff may be the eventual outcome. You'll need the PDM to stop most broadleaved weeds emerging so you can time the SU against the blackgrass emergence.

I often wondered if some mesotrione mixed with the PDM might help?

Dual-gold and wing-P as mentioned above are more for problem broad leaved weeds.

Mesotrione should help I think, different mode of action and activity in grassweeds from memory. Lots of BG about here and maize normally pretty free from it. Ideal chance for a stale seedbed.

No grassweed activity on the Callisto label and no restrictions on grass species sown afterwards either so I'm not sure what it brings to the blackgrass party.

There used to be a flufenacet product approved on maize - Cadou Star. Is it still available?

That’s embarrassing. I had thought amg was on it. Only used it on linseed.

Cripes, we are going back in time a bit now. I hadn't heard of Cadou star being used on maize for a while even before I gave up the job. It was a good product.
