Guys. Theres an outfit near to me with a yardfull of new McCormicks and an open day on Friday. Apparently some good deals going. But they dont appear to have an engineer on the job! Would you consider using them?

They bound to have mechanics or use local mechanic firm. Get a demo out see what you think and ask about backup. Should be good weapon. Get sum pics up on here of open day please and keep us updated on if you buy or not (y)

Back up is always a potential problem with a brand that sells a small volume in a country. As is the knowledge required to back the machine up.
Not sure why you'd take the risk with a tractor, others are available that do the same job for roughly the same money.
If its a specialist implement that you couldn't otherwise get then maybe but a tractors a tractor.

The general consensus on here is that if a dealer has tractors in their workshop then its a very unreliable brand.
So maybe the fact that they don't have a fitter means they do not breakdown?
I think you’ll find all brands have dealers with tractors (newish ones too) on their workshops. On my travels I’ve see all brands with “young” tractors split in two for repairs. Not uncommon

I too have been in many dealers workshops of different brands and noticed they all use them to repair tractors! My post was very 'tongue-in-cheek'.

Who is going to carry out the PDI ,
Who is going to fix it when it goes wrong because it’s not been PDi’d properly.
Can’t imagine a manufacturer taking on a dealer without vetting the all important service department.
If they have it smacks of desperation to fill the dealer network map with an any dealer will do mentality which just doesn’t work.

Iv been a member here for many a long year but dropped out a few years ago due to the silly talk. Which seems to have subsided recently. Nothing sinister I assure you. If I am tempted to make a purchase (and its very likely) I will report back. Just wanted to ask opinions on buying from a dealer with no staff. Never thought about pdi. More concerned about getting service and repair work done quickly and if its prudent to expect another dealer to be involved.

Prudent!
There’s not a chance any other dealer will want the hassle of looking after the warranty on a tractor they did not sell.
No profit made from the sale and losses incurred looking after warranty , not a chance I am afraid.
Other dealers can and sometimes will do warranty work on say a machine that happens to be in their area but this is out of professional courtesy to the brand or perhaps a one off for another dealer but there is no way they would be involved looking after the entire service support side if they haven’t sold it.
