Buying machinery from abroad.

On Monday, bit bored, I was googling combines for sale, my yearly habit, just before harvest, and I saw what I thought was a cheap combine.
By Wednesday, whilst topping weed, I shot off an email via FW requesting further details. I was assured a quick reply!
Friday comes by and a another quick glance at the ad, still open on my browser when refreshed, I notice more photos to include the header (one question I asked) and the price has jumped 11k!
Still relatively cheap I guess, but perhaps not such a bargain.
An error in the exchange rate rectified? Or dealer realized he had priced it wrong? It led me to think about the problems of buying for another country.
What have other people found?
And what does it cost approximately to ship, say a combine from Germany?

I looked at a trailing shoe in belgium, it was cheap enough but when i started emailin the man i asked if it be ok to get the lorry driver to ring me and verify the machine was ok when he arrived and id pay over the phone once i heard from the driver but he wasnt happy with that and got a bit cheeky so i just never bothered

We have just bought a Grimme bulker potato harvester from holland, compared to the few available in this country it was similar money but alot newer and all the extras. It arrived better then the photos with a few more extras on and most wearing parts replaced for new. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I bought a couple of sugar beet drills from Holland 3yrs ago,I couldn't believe how good value they were,in the end I bought two,and sold the second for as much as I bought the two at!
They were at a Massey Ferguson main dealer which eased my concern of a con.
The sales rep spoke reasonable english which also help.
I payed on a Tuesday both drills sat in my yard first thing Thursday!
Luckily for me a continental haulage company is on my doorstep which did help.

I am now looking at straw rakes in Germany now as they are very good value compared to the very over priced ones here!
Some are half the price.

Bought construction equipment from Holland of a few occasions, every transaction was a pleasure, great people to deal with, and all the equipment was better than described on viewing.

The exchange rate has put an end to it now as there isn’t enough in it to make it worth it. Its a real shame as I always managed to combine the viewing with a great night out in Amsterdam ?.

That's a fair size, I know Holland is closer then Germany but roughly what was the cost of transport? Or was it included in the sale?

If it where me & I found a machine, then get your dealer to buy it for you. He will get trade terms & you will not be at the bottom of the pile when service is required & the price will be little difference . He may even give you some warranty.

A full load to here is about 2.5k. It actually cost me that to ship my combine with a special combine rig. That’s mid France, I could be nearer or further than wherever you mean in Germany as it’s quite large.

Yes it's quite a size, similar to a medium size combine. Haulage was €3000, from one of the most northern areas of holland so not much further than some parts Germany.

I did actually think that! Upping the price by 11k took most of his margin!

A few years ago I was looking for a SPFH with biogas drum. There were only 3-4 in the UK for sale at the time, Germany had hundreds for sale, all very very high spec, some were maize only machines and when comparing a claas 970/980 against any in this country they were £50-75k cheaper over there! It would’ve paid multiple times over to do it.

I have found a set of discs in France which look good value compared to what's available over here, what sort of money would it cost to get them back to the UK? I discounted them due to the haulage initially

I have recently bought a 30 ft cultivator from Germany that was a lot cheaper than over here. Bought off main dealer through what’s app. Paid through a currency company who give you a lot better exchange rate than the bank. Transport £2k back and then still saved a load. Will do more
