It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission, and they won’t make you put the silt back in so crack on 👍.
The environment agency won’t be out and about much at the moment anyway.
Neighbours did and got a large fine and had to reinstate the riverbank to their spec, and this was during Covide lockdown.

We ditched a ditch that runs through a field. a few days later we had a call saying that a member of the public had seen our ditching and reported it and also took photos and submitted them to whoever. couldn't quite believe it tbh. i for on think lots of flooding issues could be saved by a 360!

There is a big difference between a ditch and a river. Salmon an endangered species and prized by many rich and powerful people are in full breeding season at the moment. I would be cautious of in-river work at this time of year

Yet the EA and drainage board round us are currently trying to catch up with basket work as the f**kers wouldn't do it earlier in the year before the usual wet season!

Any expert that costs ten grand to tell you not to spend twenty grand is the sort all government want to employ.

And do remember that if you cut the bank and clean the top of vegetation so there's bare soil you could get pulled by the rpa for destroying vegetation within the cross compliance strip, I kid you not, my neighbours got a right roasting for their ditching contractor doing it.
Unreal!!!!

Save £5.00 today even if it costs £500.00 tomorrow seemed to be the motto where I worked in the UK back in the early 90's...🙄

Sadly you are spot on, time the pigeons come home to roost, the Minister will have moved after much acclaim regarding cost cutting!

EA are completely unfit for purpose. They've killed more aquatic life and destroyed more habitats through poor maintenance than they've benefitted. The sooner they get a wrecking ball through there department the better!
Never a truer statement. Our 2 mile stretch is shocking. The amount of silt that has caved in off the banks over the last 20 years is shocking due to fallen trees blocking it. We have tried and tried to get them to come out with little success. Just one complete mess.
