What do you run your vaccume level at?
Our milfos was shite when we put it in, we lowered vaccume level, drilled air vent holes our bigger and went to square liners.
Treated 1 cow theough that parlour from 25th september till now.
Interesting. Did you self diagnose? How much bigger did you make the claw vent?

No, it was a new parlour and the cows where visibly uncomfortable. They set it up the same as our exisiting parlour, but it just wasnt working.
Id guess they made the vent 30% bigger. It was a pansy of a job as even 30% bigger was still a tiny hole! Broke a few drill bits

hole is most certainly pathetic. The cluster flush does actually help to keep it open

Interesting ! I certainly didnt pay that much attention to the claw vent , till we had a few washing problems , but recently I found a .8 piece of stainless mig wire , shaped with a handle on it (which I taped with red insualtion tape so it does not get lost ,hung on a piece of stallwork so I know where it is !!) to keep them open when I check the wash is going around ok !
I expect the hole is 1 ml at a quess ,so what benefit will there be in making her a tad bigger !! I see above where BF says 30 % bigger
Better washing I dare say but getting the milk away from the teat end too?

Thats why we did it, our xbreds milk out extremely quickly, when we where setting up with the specialist he done a few milkings with me and timmed the cows, average was 3.40 seconds, okay not vast liters, but at the time (october) we where 24liters. So he just wanted to keep the claw empty.

I finally remember to look this morning. The digital guage next to the vac pump reads 45 and the old fashioned dial in the pit is nearer 46.

How do they work exactly?
Rather than running at peak output at all times they have a sensor to determine vacuum demand and adjust rpm on the motor.

Just keep in mind VFDs are not simple nor are they all created equal. Even a qualified electrician wouldn’t be an expert on a VFD and it’s brand specific. They seem to require an expert that works with them regularly or extremely good tech support that won’t charge you just to talk. I’ve learned this all the hard and expensive way.

Wonderful things that can work without fault for years. But when they go wrong be sure you can bypass them and have some money in the bank account. Nothing is worse than a herd of cows with no way to milk them.

They are marvellous bits of kit They save electric and we have very little teat end damage and after the end of calving very little mastitis.
I can see they save electricity, but can’t see how they are any better than a regulator at controlling vacuum level. The regulator is still required as a backup for these pumps.

Definitely still have a mechanical regulator. Also still have multiple gauges placed throughout parlor.
