They should pay you for all the info they harvest.

It's good for management types who never leave the office, like to have lots of data and don't trust the judgement of their employees. For the rest of us its an expense that will confirm what you already know. The combine is standing too long, we don't have enough trailers.

My Tucano (2nd hand) has telematics fitted, came with a license for 1 year.
It was very nice to use, fantastic technology, but Claas won't negotiate on the £600 a year license. It's a 'no brainer' on thousands of acres, but nothing more than an avoidable cost on 400.

Or an automated way of recorded keeping, Every time a machine goes into and out a field it records what it did and for how long. So I can then go to that field and it will tell me what it's had done. Helping logistics planning fuel, seed and fert, yield maps the list goes on! not just telling you your combine is stood.

How accurate do you find the yield mapping? IMHO there has been nothing reliable or accurate since the Claydon Yield o meter.

We all keep records, but I don't need help with logistics thank you, nor does anybody else on here.
Yield maps tell a farmer what he already knows, if he is surprised by anything either he needs to get out of the office or his farm is too big.
If I believed a yield map, I would plough everything.

Data’s only any use if you intend to do something with it!
Yield mapping is nothing more than a pretty picture telling you what you’ll already know unless your going to use that data as a reference to implement a change!
I’ve been using yield maps as part of a variable rate system, if you can’t monitor the changes that are being made you don’t know whether there’s been an improvement year on year.
Also I’ve been able to pickup on slow moving drains on yield mapping, something you probably wouldn’t notice just driving the combine, but looking at the big picture can show a problem developing. That problem can then be addressed before it becomes visible to the eye in a crop or a machine gets stuck.
Obviously other factors need to be accounted for like this years weather extremes, but I still find yield mapping a very useful tool in the box.

Telematics is a great tool for management
and the ability for Data transfer
and machine uptime

having you yield data or as applied data at you finger tip is valuable and make everything so simple
You cant manage what you can't measure
I don't understand why you pay for Variable rate speeding and applications
and won't spend the time to review yield maps to see that you decision where the right one and a have a return on investment ]

The best thing is that the JDlink subscription is free from John Deere

My 2017 Lexion 630 came with a 1 year licence
While poking about on the canbus this spring I noticed it's still phoning home.
Modem is now unplugged!
they're still paying for the sim card and cloud compute so the data must be worth something to them.

I think mine does too as a icon of a phone mast pops up from time to time. How did you disconnect it?

I unplugged the antenna connector, so the module is still present on the machine, it just has no signal.
It's the golden screw-on SMA connector, on the box nestled in the bottom at the front of the electronics compartment

Edit:
On further thought you could take the telematics TransFlash card out from the left side of the monitor, under that little flip out panel.
I looked through all the files on there and it seems to use the card as a staging area for all the data it sends home, as the embedded Windows computer that runs your combine has very little available storage. Taking out the card should limit its capability to send out any meaningful data.

yes - interesting isn’t it that even when you don’t pay the subscription they still want to keep collecting that data and keep paying the bill for that sim ..........

it's not great, but better than nothing. As good a you put into it. Think the new ones are better? other colours too seem to be out front.

Yield maps a very useful for tramline trials across the farm. They tell you a lot more than anything off farm. Telematics help me get a true cost of production, rather than relying on paper that get lost or not filled out properly. Logistics is a good one for me. Helps plan fuel, even tells me how many bales have been baled in a field what the yield and average moisture is.

It's not just yield maps. date transfer, work plans, AB lines, alone worker alerts etc.

I'm sure its not for everyone. It's not rammed down my throat. I chose to use it as I like what it brings. You don't have yo use it if you don't want too!

find class telematics fairly useful sometimes but yield maps dont really tell you much that you didnt know. even if you are doing variable rate stuff there is too many other variables at play to get a really good idea of whether they have helped much.
been given a free trial of "climate fieldview" from bayer, they want me to put it on my sprayer, drill, fert spreader and combine. the software looks very similar to all the other ones. do we really want to be giving our data in real time to bayer? the usual suspects are in the farmers weekly this week singing its praises.
all this drive towards us understanding our data and but i am more and more finding myself trusting my gut feeling and intuition. things like crop monitor pro are quite interesting if anyone has had a go on that yet?

Have a look at Farm TRX, well priced aftermarket yield monitoring and mapping and they promise not to sell your data.

I can't promise it's any good as we haven't used it yet.

When we start combining wheat I will try and do a youtube video of it.

Manufacturer of a device sells you the device and it has an on board computer reporting back to the manufacturer how you use your device?

This kind of data is highly valuable to them. Whether it's a phone, a computer or a combine the value of that data is immense and they collect it to mine it and sell it or otherwise make money or savings out of it. There is no other reason.
