What’s going to be a fair price for calves this autumn? Both AA and BB calves out of BF cows ex farm at 3 weeks old. Got people that are interested but need to agree on prices.
Also dairy heifer calves, got carried away with the sexed semen and had good conception so should have 30-40 more than we need. Don’t really want to rear them on due to lack of space.
TIA

AA Bulls £200, Hfrs £150. Blue bulls £300, Hfrs £280 would be fair on current market trades out of good cows direct from farm imo. No idea of dairy hfr calf trade.

The best way to agree calf sales direct from farm is to pick a market that sells huge numbers of calves weekly, for example Market drayton and then use there weekly average as the price setter each week you sell , especially if someone is taking all the calves and not just cherry picking the best

Dairy heifers are difficult, are you pedigree? I've noticed that makes a difference

If not probably £150-£200

I think it all depends if they actually take them when they are meant too. I’ll be aiming blues bulls at £180, heifers £150, dairy heifers £100 dairy bulls £50. That’s one guy taking the rough with the smooth 14-28 days old
I know they will collect weekly anything that is 14 days with a passport and realise that is worth a bit in itself. Also realise that for a rearing getting good numbers of calves that have had colostrum from one source is worth a bit too. Just want a fair price for all. Market reports don’t tell you much unless you’re there regular seeing what goes through.

Someone is getting a bargain if they are done well for 3 weeks. My three Charolais banked £1200 after commission last Wednesday. 21/23and 25 days old.

What would the dairy heifers be breed wise? @Headless chicken @farmboy

Dairy heifers and youngstock seems to be in the doldrums a bit but like myself people would rather put milk in the tank. seems to be £50 to £200 with the latter being close to weaning and looking well.

No not pedigree. Not something planning on doing regularly. We plan to use just enough sexed to breed what replacements we need then swap to beef, this only takes about 2 weeks normally so by the time we start PDing you can’t take it back!!

Mainly British/Irish friesian. Probably better to let some go even if price isn’t amazing than trying to squeeze them all in and stretching everything. Also the bigger they get the more I’ll want to keep them!!

we’ve still got a fair few monkey bred cows which bring the average down a lot. Not many would be staying till 3 weeks either
