Chatting to neighbour this afternoon at a BBQ, got asked about going full no till with GS4 into couple of year old grass leys, anyone done this with good results, the grass was planned to be burnt off to stop it out competing, my only experience with GS4 so far has been with a combi drill into ploughed or cultivated land, with great results.

Last year was a dream here, rain as I left the field with the rolls, it’s looked fantastic all season, great crop off it all to!
Was that with the Mzuri or??

Did it with our Erth Agriseeder, which we bought at the start of last season. Think this was its first job. Yes, last year was ideal, this year will be a headache as I fear we'll be too late into the season for GS4 by the time we have adequate moisture. But senior management was keen and the IRG has been sprayed off (it had been in two years) so we are kind of committed now. Last year the legumes came first, and the grasses took a while to fill in.

Trying to post photos but the forum won't let me. I can't see why the mzuri couldn't be used for the job, if the front legs were kept out of work, and you maybe crossed drilled or drilled twice the same way but inbetween the rows if you have RTK. That would probably be my preference as you also would be consolidating in half of the first pass at the same time with the tractor wheels.

yep I'm nervous about this season, pallet of expensive seed sitting there, with the old saying, it won't grow in the bag, getting mentioned, well it won't grow in the field either at mo, see if this weeks forecast comes to anything, I won't hold my breath!

Yeah. I'm not expecting much in the way of rain in South Norfolk in the next few days (hopefully that will be wrong) and then after the outlook looks fine and dry into September, according to the weather enthusiasts online.

Btw, when I was referring to drilling with the mzuri into turf, I was thinking of using the single shoot coulter as from experience this gives much nicer seed to soil contact at a shallower depth. That would mean wide rows, hence the potential cross drilling scenario 👍

Are you using full rate or just spray to knock it back
If your drilling into grass you can alter the mix a bit as well ,cut the grass part back

Full rate glyphosate?? I'd imagine it would be something like 2lt/ha but don't know that for sure, it was more to do with had people had success with the drilling technique, I know every year different and soil type etc etc, it just got my mind ticking.

You won't get a good kill , 2 litres per acre is full rate not 2 l ha, but you say the ley is a year old so unless you drop to less than a pint to the acre Yiu will most likely kill it ,
I've seeded a few hundred acres here with a disc drill , works fine as long as you follow the rules
