If it has the big hand primer with the big plastic press-button/plunger thing, then its innards can be damaged by using excessive hand pressure when the fuel system has already pressurised.

Early M series from memory had the small ish aluminium in line hand primer in front of cab, could well be it’s not there anymore!!!
