Interested to hear if anyone has a Discovery Sport.
Thinking of getting a used one (6 or 7 years old), but of course hearing the usual warnings about Land Rover products šŸ˜‚

I think the engine likes to go bang on them sadly from what Iā€™ve been told by more than one person.

Parents had the cam chain fail, a rather expensive job. The garage which did the repairs were averaging about 4 of these repairs a monthšŸ˜¬
Less than a week later the gear selector failedšŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø, our garage managed to find the last one available, more were on back order for quite a while.

Were there a few around with the 2.2 ford/peugeot Duratorq engine? That engine was as far as I am aware well thought of. I think the ones to avoid were the igenium diesel ones with their elastic timing chains on the wrong end of the engine.

Yes. The 2.2 upto 2016 I think are the pick.

As others have alluded to, the early Discovery Sport 2.2 was pretty much a new body for the Freelander 2, and are ok.
During production Land Rover changed to the new Igenium 2.0 engine. These are generally to be avoided. The timing chain is severely undersize and is likely to fail if left unchanged for too long.
Such a shame after Land Rover made such a good predecessor.

Just bought one, lot of car for the money.

I've done the timing chain as a precaution last week, twit of a job but well worth doing.

The main problem with these engines comes down to DPF/regeneration resulting in diluted oil, the long service intervals are an absolute joke and only make the issue worse.

When I was looking through the auctions for one I couldn't believe the service history for some of them, some were on 50 or 60k miles and had only ever been serviced once!

Simply put dont even think about it. Got a tenant who repairs these things for a living. He is 'never ever' short of work ........... ever.
