Dutzi

Just wondered if anyone has had any expiences with a Dutzi rotavator with legs? Any good as a single pass? Would we be able to put wheat in after maize with one or would it just turn it to S#*t the same as a conventional rotavator as the bledes look different.

Also reliabaility and parts availability?

Without the legs work similar to the kuhn biomulch rotavator?

Thanks in advance

Talk to Geoff Wox he knows all about them and can get the parts etc. But in my experience never attempt to run them without the legs they don't work well they just bounce up and down and vibrate. They work best which seems ridiculous in bad conditions not ideal conditions. If your broadcasting infront of the roller sowing depth is abit and miss but when conditions are bad they get a crop in and somehow it grows. a lot were converted to have coulter bar behind the roller which makes them less of a blunt instrument but they peculiarly still perform best in shitty conditions relative to other machines rather than ideal conditions.

Used to be a lot of them in Aberdeenshire as one pass machines

Rau did one too and I still have it in the back of the shed.

You do need the soil lifting legs if going direct.

According to the late great Peter Hepworth they were the best thing ever closely followed by his amazone rpd drill

We farm next to where Peter farmed and I remember his well hence some of my comments above I was then involved in a Lincolnshire operation that had a couple. They had a reputation for being tractor breakers because they were built like tanks in strength and weight. But there is no shear device on the legs and big brutal feet hence my comment about blunt instrument. They were in a different league to the rau rototiller which was a lighter similar machine but wouldn’t standard the grief you could through at a dutzi.

We had one years ago on a Challenger 65 when they came out.
Biggest problem other than cost was that it left everything a bit wavey.
Good one pass machine though.

Ran a DUTZI with accord drill onto for years. Can run without legs but about 8k max speed of it will start to make your field very bumpy. Buries stone like a stone burier without the legs and was the reason we ran one, even ripped up some tarmac with it, they are built like a tank, unlike most rotavators! Still have a Rau rotiller for jobbing about, game covers etc..
