Epso Bortop

Been having some tissue tests done and it seems we are coming up short on Boron. Anyone on here using Epso BorTop? Might be an easy step for me to replace the planned EpsoTop with BorTop. Anyone any practical experience on their crops and have an idea of the price please.

Looks a good option as a product. Guess you’d be using 7kg/ha or so to make same as 5kg of Epsotop. Downside is that would be an extra 270kg for every 50l of Bortrac.

In fact, I wonder if the concentration would be rather too high. 4% B would be 280g/ha at 7kg, whereas half a litre of Bortrac would be 75g/ha or so.

I recognise that liquid and solid aren’t always directly comparable.

Are going to leave a small control area? While your tissue analysis has shown low nutrient levels this doesn't necessarily mean that applying micronutrients will show a yield response. Not criticising, just interested.

Quite right. Last year we did YEN grain sampling and were short of Boron. Same again this year from tissue analysis. Seems to be commonplace on other local farms that are tissue sampling. Not convinced about the Boron but might try some to see.
The whole tissue sampling thing is very dependant on growth immediately prior to sampling from what I can see. The YEN grain sampling seems to me to give a truer picture over the whole season. Trying to build up several years data to decide what to do. Currently we apply Manganese and EpsoTop as standard practice along with some copper where soil tests have indicated a shortfall.

Have a dose response to boron application to wheat from pakistan min ag trials. Their main growing area is calcareous hi pH and bad B issues.

Huge (many magnitudes above) rates until plateau. Think I worked out something like 10-15L/Ha Bortrac.

Now, they were probably really short-so I am not suggesting you try it! We use 1l/ha split 32 & 37. Costs very little.

Is that 1L/Ha twice or 0.5L/Ha twice?

This is what I've been using. In general, not specific for boron. Mixes nice.

Hopefully these are readable, tissue sample in a poor performing field showed low boron, and this was the recommendation, think it was £12 bag but not sure.
